I don’t specialize in any specific locality, but I *am* very fond of Greeland pieces.

Tugtupite, hackmanite, analcime, chkalovite, etc. Taseq west slope, Ilimaussaq Complex, Greenland. 6.4x3.8x2.5 cm. Shown under 254nm (left) & visible light (right).

A photo from the field, 2022. Gyspum/anhydrite alternating with limestone. The nicknamed “State Line Roadcut” on the TX/NM border is one of the only places you can see an outcropping of Castile Formation (Permian) with its stunning folds.

Fossil bivalve Fimbrinia plummeri, only 12mm wide. From the Graham Formation (Pennsylvanian). I took this before I learned about image stacking; time for a re-shoot!

This is a truly horrific photo, but this is how much I love #sand : each of those drawers is filled with ~10 tubes of sand.

Every day is #RockinTuesday if you love rocks enough. This slab of #komatiite, a rare igneous rock, is an excellent example of #spinifex texture. Personal collection; photograph my own.

Iceland is often associated with black sand, but it’s not the only kind on the island. This sand/gravel sample from Rauðisandur Beach is comprised of barnacle and shell fragments, and basalt.

Let’s kick this off with some nice, backlit #purple #fluorite . Without the backlight this piece actually looks black.
