I'll try to make this the last time I tout my little project, but I wrote about our "Crockpot & Criterion" for the @kansascity.com opinion newsletter:
What we’re doing
Crockpot & Criterion: We’re told there’s an epidemic of loneliness in the country, so my wife and I are doing our bit to provide a cure: Every Monday night, we have a few friends over for dinner and a movie from the hoity-toity Criterion Channel streaming service. (Or not so hoity-toity: Last week we watched “Encounters of the Spooky Kind,” a 1980 kung fu vampire flick from Hong Kong.) Making community doesn’t have to be so difficult: Just figure out something you like to do and invite one other person to do it with you.

They...they think a religious mandate is "freedom."

It's a diversion from life's troubles?

Are you sure? It had the best joystick of the 1980s.

Yes, as a lapsed Mennonite I have been experiencing that issue for many years!

Barack Obama had his faults*, but as far as I know he didn't torture helpless captives and yet we didn't have another 9/11.

* Drone assassinations, etc.

The guy who wrote the book in favor of torture is no longer an outlier at the Post.

ICE is wreaking complete havoc on my lovely, peaceful neighborhood on the far north side of Chicago. Schools in panic mode, businesses closing. We are being terrorized by our own fucking government.

I think we are owed at least one season of LeBron robbed of his athleticism, averaging a triple double in his final season, simply by using old man smarts and a back to the basket game.

Old guy problem. They could have said he was out with lumbago. #nba

This week has confirmed my suspicion that Biden’s Middle East policies will look worse, and will be even more embarrassing for Democrats, with the passage of time.

Looking forward to his hip replacement surgery.

If you want to know just how cook the scene was: I was waking up from a nap because I got the shingles vaccine yesterday and it knocked me out.

Yes, we are the cool family having this discussion a year later.

My son burst into my room because he heard me listening to Kendrick Lamar’s “not like us” and wanted to know if it was the Super Bowl version and to discuss the Kendrick-Drake beef more broadly.

I swear to God, I thought he only listened to video game music.

Seems like a really good reason not to give him the peace prize.

I hope you got the chance to say “Randolph Mantooth.”

Greatest name in Hollywood history.

True but also: One maybe shouldn't have given the farm economy a push when it was standing so close to the edge!

Brooke Rollins: "Here's what everyone has to understand. The farm economy is in a very uncertain time. But that isn't because of the current trade negotiations, although certainly the China part is part of that. But we inherited a slew of issues."

"Major General Niave F. Knell" is pretty Dickensian.

This lays out the situation in IL so far.

200 federalized National Guard troops in the state as of 3 p.m. on 10/8.

Two requests for protection support: 1. The ICE facility in Broadview, and 2. The Dirksen Federal Courthouse on Friday "due to two high profile cases involving DHS activities."
