“These individuals have a heightened risk of long-term health complications...their classification as having obesity is clinically appropriate.”
I get it, but a public policy hater reads this and thinks: We can eliminate hunger by declaring everyone obese.

Almost 70% of US adults would be deemed obese based on new definition, study finds
Medical experts have called for new way to more accurately measure obesity, although definition has yet to be adopted

Scanning through a fair number of reports this morning, editors didn't even think it was newsworthy to address concerns about immediate toxic hazards.
Weirdly, only the right-wing NY Post and CBS, where a Trump overseer has been installed, reported on air quality and safety measures for residents.

Under a regime of massive, ideological-driven deregulation it's reasonable to expect we'll see more, probably many more, toxic industrial disasters at factories, processing facilities, and on surface streets and interstates -- and along every other mode of transport.

The value of U.S. beef sent to China fell to just $8.1 million in July and $9.5 million in August, Chinese trade data showed, compared to $118 million and $125 million in the same months a year earlier.

Nails why accusations of hypocrisy never land with MAGA: “But the real secret is locating the animating impulse behind contemporary fascist sexuality: Hedonism for me, puritanism for thee.”

The farm sector chose to help bring Trump to power, and play this like a dictatorship.

Because they saw it as a good way to get easy money.

I know we have a folklore of farms being, like, the traditional beating heart of democracy.

That's a nice idea! But this is what's really happening.

It seems our corporate leadership class was poorly educated, mislead to think fascism was just the free market turned up to 11. Now they get to learn the hard way.
JFC, it's not "Marxist-style oppression." It's fascist oppression.

Yes, a total failure.
Somebody please tell these academics, journalists and assorted other public figures that Donald Trump is not a communist.
He is a fascist. A fascist state operates with many of the characteristics of a command economy.

Your health care bill is about to explode.

The notices will start arriving next month.

A $7,000 bill could jump to $24,000.

Democrats are fighting to stop this. Republicans are fighting to guarantee your costs go up.

We need to fix this. Now.

seems to me the main reason bluesky has a lot of desperately unhappy people freaking out about politics and world affairs on it instead of being like twitter was in the middle of the last decade is that you are using and discussing it in 2025 instead of in the middle of the last decade

KASH PATEL: you falsify that evidence with messages that are anti-ICE in nature yet?

LOW LEVEL FBI AGENT: sure did, boss. wrote the words "ANTI-ICE" on them nice and big, just like you asked

KASH PATEL: what
premthakker.bsky.social
Hours after a shooting of ICE detainees, the FBI says “early evidence” of messages on the rounds are “anti-ICE in nature.”

Here is a picture FBI Director Kash Patel just tweeted of “the unspent shell casings recovered…engraved with the phrase ANTI ICE.”

it's just a fact. you can't have a global hegemon who every few years is at risk of electing a lunatic government that will undo treaties, start murdering people in international waters on a whim, stop aid programs, and slap wanton tariffs on the world capriciously. we have no credibility anymore
johnamitchell.bsky.social
Excellent.
Encouraging to read of places where people are muddling through their economic existence with both their values and integrity, intact and expressed. Thank you.

The right-leaning prepper space is awash with claims there's been some kind of reveal recently proving covid was fake or a pretense or something (False. Covid, like climate change, is real and dangerous -- and ongoing).
Jessica Wildfire writes about the challenge of finding 'collapse community:'
text excerpt:
...you can definitely throw in with the wrong community. Where we live, the homeschooling homesteading community has a fair number of Charlie Kirk fans. We contend with a fair deal with anti-vaxxing raw milkers. We might be able to trade veggies with them, but let's face it. We can only trust them so much, and that's the hard limit we face. If we lost our home, if we couldn't find a safe apartment, would they take us in? Would they respect our Covid precautions? I highly doubt it, and that's the whole problem.
