The ring around the moon tonight is a sign that we’ll have a storm tomorrow. The ring are ice crystals in our upper atmosphere as moisture builds ahead of the storm.

All wet for NYC. Bring the umbrella Tuesday. Cold rain in store. Spotty flooding possible due to clogged drains and catch basins from the fall leaves. 5" of snow for Rockland and Orange counties. Heaviest 11am to 2pm. Around 1" of rain for NYC

What kind of winter will NYC have? Above average temps and around 25” of snow is our outlook but seasonal forecasting is more guessing than science. This winter will have a La Niña influence. Most winter weather influences can only be seen 10-15 days ahead

Happy 1st day of meteorological winter ! Meteorologists use the seasons and not the solstice/equniox ? When you hear “hottest summer” or “coldest winter” these are based on meteorological seasons and not the customs of the solstice and equniox.

Today is the end of hurricane season. As NOAA forecast in May, it was above average but for the 1st time 10 years & 7th time in 25 years, no hurricanes made landfall in the U.S.. Melissa was the 3rd strongest hurricane on record & 1 of 3 cat 5 storms & hit Jamaica very hard

Thankful for this ! In less than 3 weeks, our sunsets in NYC will start to get later for the 1st time since June 21st. No, the earliest sunset for NYC is NOT on the winter solstice(12/21).

NYC update: Today was the best of the week. Dodging drops Tuesday & Wednesday. Cold blast for Thanksgiving. Traveling back home Sun or Mon will be rough with storms from coast to coast. Major lake effect snow event too. Pack an emergency kit in your car(shovel,blanket)

Things can only get better ! NYC sunset is nearly at it's earliest for the year. Sunsets start to slooowly get later starting on December 13th. YES ! A week before the solstice. The solstice is still the day with the least daylight but it's not the day with the earliest sunset

Your iPhone sucks ! Go look and see if the NYC forecast is for rain on Fri/Sat. It’s not going to rain. The phone forecast is automated & uses free “American model” data instead of the “for-pay” more accurate European we model data. Your phone will likely catch up tomorrow

Early sunsets got you down ? Don't complain. In parts of Alaska, they will be dark for the next 60+ days. They won't see a sunrise or sunset until January 22nd.

Will NYC see the northern lights tonight ? It's not likely. Space weather forecasting is tricky but the chance is less than 10%. Cloudy early and then weaker energy late
