Wayland's Smithy on #TheRidgeway, close to Uffington Castle. A magical place - even more so at this time of year

A few more pics from yesterday's walk from Princes Risborough to Ivinghoe Beacon along #TheRidgeway Some sections of actual HS2 tunnel in Wendover. Let's hope the destruction of the countryside is worth it - I doubt it will be!

Yesterday’s walk with my sister from Princes Risborough to the end of #TheRidgeway at Ivinghoe Beacon. What a fabulous walk. Best leg of the trail IMO. Tomorrow I start the 110 mile Icknield Way Path on my way to the North Norfolk Coast #GreatChalkWayIn25

I was reminded by @andysin33.bsky.social that you're not finished the full 232 miles #ThamesPath Source to Sea until the water laps your feet at Grain Beach. So, even though I reached Grain a couple of weeks ago with @keld16.bsky.social , today I went back & well & truly completed the trail 🤣

I found this programme from 2013 today on iPlayer regarding the Hoo Peninsula in the Thames Estuary. It should be of particular interest to anyone who has or is planning on walking the England Coast Path extension of the Thames @thamespathnt.bsky.social www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/epis...
The Flying Archaeologist - 4. The Thames: Secret War
Ben Robinson flies over the Thames to reveal discoveries about WWI, including a network of trenches on the Hoo peninsula near the former Chattenden Barracks.

This week I completed my 232 mile #ThamesPath 'Source to Sea' walk with the final leg from Gravesend to Grain Beach. I was accompanied by my walking buddy @keld16.bsky.social who's ½ way through his 2nd TP walk. For me, after completing the trail 6 times, I really think enough's enough now! 🤣

Yesterday’s penultimate stage of my Thames 'Source to Sea' walk between Erith & Gravesend. 5.4 miles or 30% of the walk is spent crossing the estuary of the River Darent! Like the previous stage, the path isn’t pretty but you do at least get to walk under the QEII Bridge😀

Yesterday's #ThamesPath walk from Vauxhall Bridge to Erith. Completed the official National Trail at Woolwich Foot Tunnel for the 6th time in as many years before continuing towards the Isle of Grain on the King Charles III England Coast Path. 2 more stages to reach the sea!

Bit of a marathon walk along the #ThamesPath yesterday from Maidenhead to Hampton Court. Officially 26.5 miles but further in reality. Reached Shepperton for last ferry of the day. Warm but not as hot as it's going to get this weekend. Fabulous walk! @thamespathnt.bsky.social

What are the chances? Heading towards Cholsey at Wallingford along the Thames Path yesterday & I bump into Wendy, one of the Thames Path National Trail’s volunteers who at that precise moment was exiting onto the path from the garden of one of her friends lucky enough to own a riverside property!

Yesterday's walk from Abingdon to Goring along the #ThamesPath . At Clifton Lock, Curtis the lock keeper & his wife have really excelled themselves this year. Remember, the profits from their ice cream sales are ploughed into the plant fund, so no need to feel guilty about stopping for one! 🍦🌺🌻🌼🏵️

So simple but so effective! From my walk yesterday, this really put a smile on my face 😀

Yesterday's 20 mile walk along #TheRidgeway from Wallingford to Princes Risborough. Not my favourite stage as a little short on great views. However, on my 360 mile #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge I am now in Buckinghamshire and over half way to the North Norfolk Coast! Next stage to Ivinghoe Beacon

2/2 This morning's walk from Goring to Wallingford along
#TheRidgeway wasn't just about the river. The walk passes through the beautiful villages of South Stoke & North Stoke. Perch & Pike in South Stoke sadly closed at moment, looking for a new landlord. New career someone? #GreatChalkWayIn25

1/2 Continuing my #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge this morning with a quick walk along #TheRidgeway from Goring to Wallingford. Knowing my love of the #Thames, could this be the best 6 miles of The Ridgeway? @theridgewaynt.bsky.social @thamespathnt.bsky.social Less than 200 miles to go now - 199 🤣

Yesterday's walk along #TheRidgeway from Ashbury to Letcombe Bassett taking me to the highest point in Oxfordshire at Uffington Castle (860ft). Add on 3 miles at the end to reach the bus at Wantage. Time for a short break now to get on with my blog! #GreatChalkWayIn25

Today I crossed from Wiltshire into Oxfordshire on my #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge with a walk along #TheRidgeway from Ogbourne St George to Ashbury. That's 135 miles of 360 completed now. After 5 nights away I now need to get home for a bit of break after tomorrow's walk @theridgewaynt.bsky.social

Latest stage of my #GreatChalkWayIn25 challenge. Today I completed the #SarsenWay leg by walking from Upavon to Overton Hill where it met #TheRidgeway . More than 2 miles of this leg were along the Kennet & Avon Canal where I saw my 1st cygnets of 2025. Next stop Ivinghoe Beacon!

Brilliant walk today along the #SarsenWay from Amesbury to Upavon. Such a varied walk - Stonehenge, River Avon, more thatched cottages than you could shake a stick at & the huge expanse of Salisbury Plain BUT mainly thatched cottages! 🤣 Tomorrow Upavon to Avebury #GreatChalkWayIn25
