Here's some (potentially) lost media for you! A viewer recently uploaded this video of the employee party that Microsoft held during XP's launch. It mostly features short interviews with some of the developers, but there's also clips of people on stage speaking.

Libraries matter. Access matters.

After years of legal battles, the Internet Archive is still here—and still fighting for a world where everyone can read, learn, and remember.

@arstechnica.com tells the story: arstechnica.com/tech-policy/...
Internet Archive’s legal fights are over, but its founder mourns what was lost
“We survived, but it wiped out the library,” Internet Archive’s founder says.

🐈 By May 2001, Garfield’s Gmail was replaced by a free service at @e-garfield․com via Everyone․net. Google didn’t adopt the Gmail name until April 2004 — and there’s no evidence they got the idea or name from Garfield․com. But it's safe to say Garfield beat them to the inbox.

📧 Years before Google, “Gmail” was a fan email service on Garfield․com; perfect for anyone who hates Mondays.

It vanished like lasagne into Garfield's belly, but pawprints remain on the #WaybackMachine ⤵️

PSA: Before this "dislike" thing gets out of hand, because I've seen some very big accounts misinforming people, here's what it actually is.

It's a private option that lets you see less of topics you're not interested in on certain feeds. That's it.

It's not a downvote, thumbs down, etc.

Here's a little Mii-centric post:

The Swapnote/Swapdoodle's friendly guide, Nikki, in two unofficial renders using her Mii to approximately represent her appearances in Swapnote and Swapdoodle respectively.

(IMO probably the easiest Mii to recreate for me anyways)

I hope everyone has had a fantastic Halloween this year. Now that it’s all over, it’s time for us to return back to our regularly scheduled programming for the rest of the year.

Stay tuned for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day at the end of this year! 🦃🎄

Nothing special here, just a belated photo shoot for her show's eighth anniversary.

I don’t even know what’s going on here…

Windows on Darwin anyone?
Something's wrong with my Windows Vista install.

Back in the day, I used this alongside the original version of Windows 8 on my brother’s laptop that I was using at the time when it came out.

And considering that the Windows 8 laptop that I’m running on at the time had a touchscreen display, I seem to be pretty much content with Windows 8/8.1.
On this day in 2013, Windows 8.1 was released as a free upgrade to Windows 8 users.

So Pokémon Legends Z-A came out today, and the day before today I’ve received this from my aunt just recently:

Before the day ends, Windows 10 is now EOL.

Thanks for serving us for over 10 years, for better or worse.

(I wanted to post something related to this on this day but ran out of time because real life)

Due to AOL (formerly America Online) discontinuing their dial-up service as of today (as of the time of writing this post), have a look of these AOL dial-up startup screens from different AOL Desktop versions from the 1990s to the 2000s.

Something a little bit random for today, here's a set of images of Nikki from Swapnote, as depicted through the Wii, Wii U, Switch and Miitomo styles.

(Note that the first image depicting the Wii style is using a hairstyle that only appeared on 3DS onwards)

1. Bluesky doesn’t downrank links
2. You can choose your own algorithm from among thousands
3. The whole app is open source

This keeps it a free and open platform by design, leading to better click-throughs and traffic to your site.

We 💙 the open web.
