I have a lot of books about ghosts and hauntings on my shelves. So, as we countdown to Halloween 2025, I'm going to pick a book and a ghost/haunting from that book and post a little bluesky sized summary of that on here.

9) RED BRIDGE GHOST
A contemporary ghost (when the book came out). Red Bridge near Llanidloes, Wales, was the site of multiple sightings young woman's ghost during the 1970s. Drivers would see her on the road, but have no time to break. She would pass through their car, looking mournful.

A the old "can I borrow your book" trick.😢

Sorry, I always write these up just a bit wrong because I'm holding the book in one hand, and typing on my phone with the other.

The only correct take on a fundamentally anti-human technology.
Screenshot of David Simon interview
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

Wow. That's a strange coincidence.

I was only half listening, but I think I heard on the radio that the EU is banning veggie food being called sausages and burgers, because those are meat words. And, I'm pretty sure that there are better things they could be doing, you know?

Prose fiction takes (me) ages to write, but I *think* I'm going to finally finish a short story for a new Lovecraft related thing this week.

DRAMARAMA SPOOKY - THE KEEPER (1983): Alan (The Owl Service) Garner wrote this brilliant episode of the supernatural anthology for kids. Two ghost hunters bite off more than they can chew during an overnight vigil at a haunted cottage...
A chilling, atmospheric episode with a hell of an ending.

8) DRUMMER BOY
In the 12th century a young drummer boy was murdered at Dover Castle. Peter was killed, robbed, and beheaded, but his head was never found. His headless ghost is said to march around the castle grounds, beating still beating his drum.

A cool charity in Hoxton that teaches & gives disadvantaged kids skills in filmmaking has asked me a question:

Any female animators want to take part in a mentorship programme they run?

They've been doing good work for 25+ years.
