I am a photographer currently based between Canberra, ACT and Narooma, NSW. I am following my passion to photograph Australia’s wonderful wildlife and nature.

A Rainbow Lorikeet takes flight from a balcony in #Sydney in mid-October. I was really happy with this capture of a beautiful #bird, which also helps pollinates plants. Although, I was very conscious of pointing my long lens at somebody's house. #birdphotography #wildlifephotograpy
An Australasian Darter at Jerrabomberra Wetlands in late October removing a feral Redfin Perch from the ecosystem & having a meal. This is the moment the bird is flicking the fish around to eat it head first. #naturephotography #wildlifephotography #bird
Marking #WorldAnimalDay 2025, "Save the #animals, save the planet." We all share the Earth & all species have their place. Beyond preserving animals so that we survive, we also derive enjoyment & mental respite from the beauty of animals, such as this Black Swan at Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra.
Very happy two of my photographs were Commended in the #Animals category of the Mono Awards 2025, my first result in a photography competition & a very pleasant surprise. Many thanks to the judges of the Mono Awards 2025 & a big congratulations to the winners who created some inspiring works of art.
Wishing everyone a happy #WorldPhotographyDay for 2025. Here is a photo I took last week of a Silver Gull while practicing my #birds in flight technique. I hope everyone enjoys taking a #photograph today.
Standing in a field this morning when it was -5C, at least I got a photo of Brown Quail, a group of them were beside a bike path in #Canberra happily eating seeds as biked & morning runners went past them #bird #birdphotography #wildlifephotograpy
Mid-June in Narooma, an Australian #Pelican snapping at a Silver Gull that woke it up. I was amazed a bird as large a as a pelican could rest on the narrow railing - #wildlifephotography #birds #birdphotography www.jonsteinbecknaturephotography.com.au/blog-3-1/an-...
Happy #WorldSnakeDay2025 to encourage snake safety & coexistence with #snakes - this is a Red-bellied Black Snake I photographed in July 2023 in #Narooma - snakes help control introduced rodents in Australia, they also try to avoid humans. #wildlifephotography #naturephotography
I didn't go very far to photograph this Sulphur-crested #cockatoo. I was happy with this photo because I was able to catch the light behind the cockatoo with a hint of illumination of the crest and with the bokeh in the background. #bird #wildlifephotography #photography #birdphotography
In mid-June I photographed this Nankeen Kestrel perched on a convenient sign at the start of a coastal walk south of #Narooma, NSW. These birds eat a variety of small animals allowing them to find food more easily than specialist feeders. #bird #birdlife #wildlifephotography
@meinmakro.bsky.social Many thanks for the settings, very much appreciated. All the best
@meinmakro.bsky.social Great shot. Are you able to explain how you took it and what your camera settings were please? I would love to photograph a dragonfly like this. Again, great shot.
Happy #pigeonappreciationday - these #birds don't get much appreciation in Australia but they do have lovely colours on their throats. This one was on the rock breakwater at #narooma - #wildlifephotography #naturephotography #pigeons
Trying out some #black&white photography for my wildlife images. I have normally shot only in colour but there is an interesting aesthetic with black & white. I have created a gallery on my website for the images - www.jonsteinbecknaturephotography.com.au/galleries/bl... #birds #wildlifephotography
Found this female Wingless Soldier Fly with her ovipositor (for laying eggs) buried in a wooden gate post at Central #Tilba - she is actually facing downwards - she doesn't bite & her larvae will often prevent other bothersome fly larvae being present #insects #macrophotography
8 June is #worldoceanday2025 - Hopefully the UN Ocean Conference starting tomorrow progresses the sustainable use of the oceans - & #Australia finally ratifies the High Seas Biodiversity Treaty, please - science is showing how much our life on the land depends on the health of the #oceans. #nature
@birdlifeoz.bsky.social I thought these might be your tags W7/T9 on these Hooded Plovers at Pooles Beach, south of Narooma on 1 June, at about 10:20AM. They both looked healthy. I observed them for about 25 mins while they appeared to look for food in the sand. #birds #wildlifephotography
#worldparrotday 31 May 2025 a Rainbow Lorikeet in Narooma. These are wonderful birds with great personalities & hopefully we can retain native vegetation so they can continue to thrive in the wild - #birds #birdlife #birdsofaustralia #wildlifephotography #WildOz #canonphotography #parrot
For the CIT #photography course we had to replicate the moody style of the American photographer Todd Hido. I found one of his shots very relatable, which I decided to replicate in #Narooma & I was happy with the results #landscape #nature - www.jonsteinbecknaturephotography.com.au/blog-3-1/try...
Just published a few still-life images of some beautiful seashells from south-east New South Wales. www.jonsteinbecknaturephotography.com.au/blog-3-1/the... #nature #photography #seashells
