My first novel is available. Wrapped up in a science-fiction yarn, it offers ruminations on everything from the human condition and the impacts of climate change to, yep, playing baseball. You can get it here (US) shorturl.at/6n3Es or here (UK) shorturl.at/fEmvl

The United Nations’ highest judicial body ruled that nations must prevent environmental harm and limit greenhouse gas emissions. The nonbinding decision pressures countries to fulfill climate pledges and opens doors for global climate cases.
U.N. court rules countries have duty to limit greenhouse emissions
The court was asked to rule on whether nations are obligated under international law to protect the Earth’s climate from planet-warming emissions.

Thank you so much! Frankly, climate change. I work in that space and trying to come up with how we can grapple (and survive in the face of the existential threat) was a driving force

Yesterday GB U12s achieved their goal of qualifying for next year’s A Pool after a close 2-0 win against Poland. The win also means they will face Spain this afternoon in the final of this year's tournament.

I just feel that between the Devers, Betts and Sale trades they’ve gotten nothing in return and could have retained a core of players who, along with the upcoming young core, would have been better positioned to contend.
Quite honestly, it should be a fun and pretty open event with Hodek and Hebert both having a chance if they get hot.
Don’t forget Team Dunnam. Those teams are all within about 10 spots of each other on the WCT rankings. I’d put at least even odds on all three teams.

Global average temperatures are spiking, rising faster than climate models seem able to explain, and in a sane world, every country would be united in a full-scale effort to figure this out & respond. Instead the US is dismantling its scientific infrastructure.

Stan Musial was friends with Pope John Paul II. They met in Poland before the papacy began and remained friends throughout Musial’s life.
So happy to hear that Brad Marcelino has been named head coach/manager for Great Britain Baseball’s National Team. I roomed with him at his very first Euros back in 1999 and I knew even then that he was all business. The program is in great hands. Congrats Brad and GB Baseball!
Congrats on the new gig! You'll be missed in Denver.
My favorite line from “The Glory of Their Times” comes from Boston Red Sox Hall of Famer Harry Hooper about Babe Ruth. He said that when Ruth started in the Majors, he was “only lightly brushed by the social veneer we call civilization.” Do any ballplayers talk like that anymore?
Nice piece, as always. But minor point: Stopera played second Korey for most of this season. Tom Howell took over as vice relatively early this year.
This tool is so illuminating on the national impact of federal funding for infrastructure. In nearly
every pocket of America, this money can do good. Right now, almost all of these funds are being frozen by the current executive administration. grist.org/accountabili...
