Gordon was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1955. He graduated from West High School in 1973. He earned a BS in secondary education from the University of Minnesota College of Education. He then attended the College of St. Catherine, focusing on Montessori education and early childhood development.

He currently chairs the Land Use Committee and is the Vice-chair of Housing and Community Development Committee. One of his main focuses in office has been to increase community land use and begin rent stabilization across Somerville.

He graduated from the College of the Atlantic in 2014 with a BA Human Ecology. Before moving to Cambridge, he worked at consultancy groups in Portland, Maine and the New York City area. He has served in his capacity since 2017.
