8/ On this #IDPD, let’s recognize not only the challenges but also the immense contributions disabled people make to the global economy every day.
7/ Despite contributing billions annually, disabled people routinely face barriers to work, accessibility, and inclusion. Imagine how much more they could add to the economy with fewer barriers and greater opportunities!
6/ Every dollar spent by a disabled person supports countless sectors: healthcare, biotech, personal assistance, tech, manufacturing, and more. The ripple effects are enormous.
5/ Accessibility drives innovation: From housing modifications to accessible vehicles to inclusive tech, the disabled community’s needs fuel billions in economic activity. These industries create jobs, spark innovation, and improve life for everyone.
4/ The market for assistive technologies and devices (think wheelchairs, hearing aids, prosthetics, etc.) was valued at $50 billion USD in 2020 and is growing fast. As populations age, demand for these products will only increase.
3/ Healthcare spending alone is massive. In the U.S., adults with disabilities spend over $80 billion USD annually out-of-pocket on health care. Globally, these costs are even higher when factoring in other countries.
2/ According to ChatGPT, disabled individuals and their families contribute an estimated $1.9 trillion USD globally in spending power annually. This includes healthcare, adaptive equipment, medications, supplements, and other necessary goods and services.
1/ Today is the #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities, a reminder to recognize the rights and dignity of disabled people but as well as their immense contribution to the global economy. Here are some numbers. 🧵

Hello blue sky people! I have 16,000 Twitter followers to whom I am dedicated to helping with MECFS. How will I ever reach that over here? Do I need to post on both places? ❤️

You can ask ChatGPT or any AI to prepare a meal plan for you for any diet. You can specify “for people who can’t cook”, “gluten-free”, “low FODMAP”, etc. Then have it prepare a grocery list, tell you which stores nearby have those items on sale, and show you how to get them delivered!

Very intriguing article suggesting a link between blood vessels & pain. Blood draining from veins “in the direction of gravity” drops blood pressure & causes veins to dilate. “It’s possible… that this sensitises nociceptors in & around the veins, increasing feelings of pain.”

Sound familiar? #POTS
Blood vessels probably aren't the first thing you'd associate with feeling pain.

New findings from @acourtin.bsky.social and team, however, suggest that they may play a larger role than we suspected: www.bps.org.uk/research-dig...

A surprise finding leaves researchers with “more questions than answers.”

We’ve put a lot of work into making Bluesky a healthier social network. This app is designed to give you a choice — in what you want to see, what you don’t want to see, and how you want to interact.

Some tips on how to customize your experience:
If you have #ME #MECFS and have to go the ER or Urgent Care, taking a paper copy of this article from batemanhornecenter.org can be so helpful. You can ask to have it added to your chart.

This is a great start from the Bateman Horne Center. I keep a copy with me; it’s been invaluable when I’ve had to go to the ER.
