inspired by @whit3fi3sta.bsky.social making a scorigami board for the #S3NAL, I've put together a scorigami sheet for LUTI season 16 - one board with all scores, and one for each mode individually. #compsplatoon

Metonymy is everywhere, we use it constantly in language. I’ve found the word itself quite useful, it’s both precise and compact for the exact phenomenon described here :)

Greetings #compsplatoon community! I've started a Scorigami to track every score that has happened for the Top 8 games throughout #S3NAL. Scores in black are impossible, and scores in green/blue all occurred in Week 1's Top 8 games.

Incredible work I’m excited to see how this evolves
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
“Pro” can work as metonymy for “highly skilled competitive” and there isn’t anything wrong with that.

It’s like how “Olympic level” can be applied to things that aren’t in the actual Olympics.

Language is flexible like that.

I opened a video about "the company ruining restaurants" and I was engaged until I saw it was one of my former employers.

lmfao
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
Yeah I’m just thinking they’d rather I take two full weeks off than just take every Monday off until the end of the year.

Would probably end up feeling better tho lmao
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
For the past four weeks, every Monday I’ve been either too sick to work or I’ve had the day off due to corporate holiday. Next week is another corporate holiday, bringing it up to five.

Should I go for the full eight Mondays in a row? I have unlimited PTO, but I’m sure my boss will side eye me lmao

Do you walk into graduate level math lectures demanding they break it down for you despite not having the prerequisites or do you realize you’re not the target audience?

And no, you immediately started making demands with no attempt to communicate, the post is still up.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
Also, could you engage in a less entitled manner? Could you instead ask specific questions you’d like clarity on instead of demanding I cater to you specifically and try to cloak it in the language of social justice? I engage with almost every idea in that thread and go pretty deep to expand.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
The only word in that thread that can be shifted into a wordier alternative is “ostensibly”. “Rehabilitative”, “punitive”, and “retributive” are concepts that cannot be broken down further, they’re part of the language necessary to engage with discussions of justice.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
It’s not “just” wanting Jared gone because he’s shown signs of being a better person. None of this thread shows that until pushed back on it, that’s just the more defensible claim.

That’s core republican strategy.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
Yeah that visceral feeling of discomfort is intentional, but the parallel is appropriate. The republican talking points are about maximizing punishment with no path towards reintegration. They’re appeals to emotion that hijack language that makes people clutch their pearls.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
What would’ve been ideal punishment for them, in your eyes? How can we determine appropriate punishment moving forward? What would be a path to reintegration that you support?
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
This is such a “mean girl” comment. What did you think you’d gain from posting this?

I’m expanding on a specific philosophical argument and using precise language to stay true to the source material. It’s also high school level vocabulary at best, and none of the words are unnecessarily complex.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
It’s a sophisticated argument that says that intolerance of the intolerant is the measure of last resort, taken only when the enemies of an open society (who don’t abide by the rules of the tolerant) make rational debate impossible.

It is not at odds with a rehabilitative approach towards justice
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
Have you read the link you posted? The paradox of tolerance is a specific argument made by Popper that doesn’t apply here. It’s not to kick out anyone you deem intolerant, it’s a thought experiment about what happens to a perfectly tolerant society that does not reserve the right to pick intolerance

I think the logistics are definitely way easier as a ladder format, and it’s easier to understand for players too!

But man it’s so interesting to think about

Like a large scale splarate for a single tournament rather than a long term league!
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
This seems like a logistic nightmare and can't really be hosted on any platform whatsoever so it's unlikely to ever be a reality, but is definitely an interesting thought experiment.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
The interesting bit here is that the scheduler would use match results to form the next set of matches to minimize number of rounds necessary to be relatively sure of the ordering of players.
joythedatanerd.bsky.social
You know... part of me wonders if I can use the algorithm for comp.splat.top to make a solo queue tournament. You queue up, get assigned your next match (including teammates), once all matches are done it assigns your next match, etc. Then at the end, player with the highest score wins.

This is something I feel so ashamed to ask here, specially as it's irl personal stuff, but I'll going to make a shot:
Life has been unstable recently, work it's not reliable and now I need to prepare to move out. Bills and rent cannot wait so I'm asking for help and a way to get something stable.
