Think I finally finished the last draft of a story I've been working on for months. This was a tough one, but I think I finally got it the way I want it.

I feel like this has been a slow year for submissions. Not as many anthologies as previous years. Do other writers agree or is it just me being greedy?

Trump is now offering millionaire immigrants to bribe their way legally into the U.S. by paying a million dollars for a green card. His administration isn't about locking out criminal immigrant. His administration is about getting rid of poor minorities. www.bbc.com/news/article...
Trump launches $1m 'gold card' immigration visas
The special visas will be awarded to those who can show they can make a "substantial benefit" to the US.

Almost 60,000 words into my WIP and I'm trying something new with the prose and voice and I'm worried people are going to find it distancing. Thankfully this is only a rough draft. Going to finish it out this way and see how I feel after this draft is complete.

The thought that they’ve heard it before but can’t place where or when. But every time the song plays it reveals a piece of an event from the past that the character doesn’t know whether is real or just in their imagination. #HorrorWritersChat

There are several, but listening to the voodoo sounds of Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew while driving through a snowstorm in the middle of Michigan woods is definitely the tension I want to build in my horror. Don’t know if I achieved it yet. #HorrirWritersChat
Q3, #HorrorWritersChat.

Us writers are weird creatures. We can't help but shake and quake over a perfect line, but all the senses will get you, if you're open to it.
And music is a story in the ears. Just like a perfume is a story for the nose.
But can you translate it into writing? Do you?
December 10, 2025 at 7:57 PM
Its great to build mood, atmosphere, and tension through sound. The creak of the door, howl of the wind, screech of a barn owl, break if a twig can be effectively creepy if placed at the right moment. #HorrorWritersChat
Q2.
How do you use sound, music, or the absence of it?
And if we're speaking of the absence of it, Disturbed's Sound of Silence (with Myles Kennedy) is way better than the original of it and you'll just have to accept that.
I will die on this hill!

J.R. Blanes. Body Horror with some Supernatural and psychological mixed in. If I do listen to music, its instrumental (jazz, classical, instrumental rock). Lyrics are distracting. #HorrorWritersChat
Q1.
#HorrorWritersChat, you know what to do.
No links. Not till the end. No sneaky promo. Just lots of lovely lovely chat.

Ending the year with a bunch of short story rejections. But it's been a good year for writing. My debut novel, Portraits of Decay, was released in October from Ruadan Books. I had three short stories published in the Spring in the City Anthology, Allegory Magazine, and Macabre Magazine.
