LNG is dirty!

LNG is much dirtier than solar, wind, hydro, geothermal & nuclear in Japan or anywhere.

LNG is now often more carbon intensive than national electricity carbon intensity.

LNG's CO2 intensity of at least ~507gCO2/kWh is higher than Japan's 2024 483gCO2/kWh. #energysky

Japan will restart two nuclear units (1067 MW each), with local approval gained.

KK Units 6 & 7 began operations in 1985 & 1990 but have been offline since 2011 & 2012.

This will reduce Japan's burning of dirty LNG of which it imports a lot.

Hydro generated 157 TWh & solar 137 TWh in 2024.

Solar was up 39% in 3/2025 (16.8 TWh) vs 3/2024 (12.2 TWh).

Then solar was up 21% in 9/2025 (13.6 TWh) vs 9/2024 (11.3 TWh).
