Urban planning practitioner and professor at MIT. New Englander. Obviously funded by some nefarious neo-liberal organization.
Honestly, “Department of War” reminds us what they do, but I think different people take different messages from the concept that they are not just for defense…

Unless there was a last minute change, the bill also eliminates the HOME and CDBG programs, which would be a major blow to community development and housing programs in cities throughout the country.
Any housers who celebrate this bill are showing that they only care about their piece of the LIHTC industrial complex and not the people they purport to serve. My latest editorial for @shelterforce.bsky.social.
Trump's Big Ugly Bill Is a Loss for Housing
The tax bill includes big increases in housing funding. But its other provisions are so harmful that the affordable housing field should not be celebrating.

Seriously. This is not the NBA finals, this is peoples' lives and futures.
IDEA: Stop covering politics like its a fucking sporting event.

The GOP spending cuts don't provide an "opening" for Democrats to attack. They are either going to harm people or not. Journalism is supposed to be about informing people.

Harvard redid its whole homepage to push back against the administration’s demands. I mean, this is just a website but I think it’s kind of a great PR move: www.harvard.edu

It's encouraging to see organizations refuse federal funding rather than given in and change basic human decency standards. It's also good to see universities get backbones. But if federal funds foregone are replaced with private funds, oligarchs have stolen our tax money.

So many bad decisions in government get covered up by blaming “other actors” - I saw this first hand in agencies with bad leadership (usually leaders who thought they were infallible so “it couldn’t be their mistake”)
It’s really fascinating what happens when you remove diversity—white male incompetency is placed on full display and with no one to blame for their actions —so they just lie.

As a Wes alum it's great to see their current president speaking up for democracy and academic freedom
I love this. “A little neurotic Jewish kid from Long Island” has as much power to call BS and stand up for his institution as anyone else.

Wonder what's going to happen to the US bond rating? Not paying vendors based on agreed-upon contracts seems like a bad sign for potential investors. And talk of just not paying off some debt seems worse.

Black travelers once turned to the Green Book, a guide started in 1936 to “vacation without aggravation.” Pieces of New England history are still in its pages. We mapped the listings — and found some stories along the way.
