A WILD ONE: A man broke his leg during an arrest by ICE at a car wash south of L.A.

ICE has held him under 24/7 guard at a hospital, registering him under a pseudonym, for *37 days* without telling him why.

A judge has ordered his immediate release.

Judge IMMERGUT, a Trump appointee to the bench, ruled that Trump's call-up was based on false claims about unrest in Portland and that Trump's own statements were "simply untethered to the facts."

NEW: Judge Immergut BLOCKS Trump's federalization of the Oregon National Guard, writing that the govt has "made a range of arguments that, if accepted, risk blurring the line between civil and military federal power—to the detriment of this nation." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
CONCLUSION
For the above reasons, this Court GRANTS Plaintiffs' Motion for Temporary Restraining Order, ECF 6, and temporarily enjoins Defendants' September 28, 2025, Memorandum ordering
the federalization and deployment of Oregon National Guard service members to Portland. The
TRO expires in fourteen days on October 18, 2025, and the parties are ORDERED to comply with the attached TRO. The Defendants' request to stay or administratively stay the Temporary Restraining Order, see Defendants' Opposition to Plaintiffs' Motion for Temporary Restraining
Order, ECF 35 at 41, is DENIED.
IT IS SO ORDERED
DATED this 4th day of October, 2025 at 3:40 p.m. pacific daylight time.

I keep reading things for Chicago protests about “free speech zones.” That implies there are areas that are not “free speech zones.”There should not be an inch of American soil where the First Amendment isn’t protected.

All the numbers say that Othani struggles at the plate the day after he pitches. Why did he start game 1 when there’s another game tomorrow instead of tomorrow and take advantage of the travel day? #MLBSky

Cities could also shut off electricity and plumbing to ICE facilities, block traffic, etc. Lots of formal resistance that wouldn’t involve broadswords or tanks. IIRC Newark was doing onerous fire code inspections as a for instance.

Correct they are not in fact getting paid. While there is a government shutdown, they are not being paid. They are considered essential, which means they are required to keep working, without receiving a paycheck. Presumably, they will receive backpay once the government reopens.

Right. I think if the Dems said that, there would be more support for their shutdown strategy.
jsatz.bsky.social
I don’t understand why Dems just simply say that while the federal government is shutdown, ICE officials don’t get paid. That would easily garner more support on their side, especially after seeing what’s happening here and Chicago.
