i think rule one to get cis people to understand that trans people's assertion of their gender is something that is intended to communicate their embodiment, desire, or (place in) history is to deprogram the idea that sex indicates two discrete body forms & instead present the body as a continuity

most of the US "left" is still infantile and incredibly reactionary. instead of coddling those reactionary tendencies perhaps we should work on building something else so that people have a place to channel their indignation about the state of things that's actually productive
