Neurodivergent RN, wife, mom, science nerd, manic pixie forest crone. Homeschooler, but believes in kids’ rights and teaches about things like Black and Indigenous history and lots of science, so kind of a lonely homeschooler.

Thank you, I think we absolutely do need a goat with bat ears today. I certainly did.

So then what are the statistics? What is the “average” autistic person like? How autistic can you be and still be online? And where on Earth are you getting your information?
julieinthewoods.bsky.social
The homeschool lobby is absolutely out of control. It’s been shocking to me how hard they will fight against minor, common-sense changes in state laws to protect kids and make sure they are actually being educated. All in the name of “parents’ rights.” Just shameful.

He’s also, unsurprisingly, ignoring the fact that autism does not just exist in little boys. I guess when someone’s been grifting off the same bullshit practically since Rain Man was the cultural concept of autism it’s hard to update their propaganda though.

I don’t think it’s good to make assumptions or “diagnose” based on limited interactions or singular traits, but there are certain things that make me think “this person’s probably part of this community that I’m part of too.” Maybe I see it differently due to being neurodivergent myself?

Remember the AI picture of him as Pope? From his first apostolic exhortation:
“No need to be good. Unless you are like, old and sick and thinking about the next step. What is that place called again? I heard they’ve got gold toilets there.”

He’s also somehow the guy that Evangelicals and some TradCaths treat as ordained by the Lord himself to make this a God-fearing Christian nation? He’s dropping hot catechetical takes for his fan base I guess.

Chef Boyardee pizza from a box. Not like a freezer box, the shelf- stable kind with the dough mix, can of tomato sauce, and little pack of parmesan-ish “cheese.”
Also chipped beef gravy on Pillsbury biscuits.
My family thinks these are beyond disgusting (except one kid likes biscuits & gravy.)

While I have asked my kids to wait a few years to read certain books (like 11yo wanted to read Night and Things Fall Apart) I can’t imagine keeping them away from the library, or most books. Parents should want kids to read and learn and expand their knowledge and imagination and empathy.

Not me trying to order enough double decker tacos, 7 later burritos, and caramel apple empanadas so that Taco Bell brings them back permanently.

VINDICATED AT LAST

Look, let's get this straight, once and for all.

It's DUCK TAPE 🦆, not duct tape.

I brought RECEIPTS.

Modern duck tape is cloth-backed, polyurethane coated, with a pressure-sensitive adhesive & a distinctive silvery color from a powdered aluminum pigment.

But duck tape is much older...
Silvery duck tape, with the seam visible. It's a thick roll with labeling on the interior, and it's laying horizontally on a white featureless background.

This might be an unpopular or controversial opinion, but I think “gifted” in the 80’s was often really undiagnosed autism, especially in AFAB people. Esp. “Gifted” + anxiety, depression, “underachiever,” etc.

Maybe I’m just bitter though, lol.

This! I think the opposite of fascism isn’t “normal,” it’s taking joy in weirdness
anatosaurus.bsky.social
As a former Portlander myself, love that its motto is Keep Portland Weird. An essential part of fascism's project is to tell all of us how to look, whom to love, what to say, how to dress. Fuck that. Portland is too fabulous for fascism.

That’s why fascists hate autistic people. That’s why they hate trans people. They worship conformity, they fear people finding joy in being their true, authentic, non-conformist selves.

I homeschool my kids. One was going to do Civics this year, but we are both too furious that it’s all a big bullshit scam-ass mess of a government right now. I found a US history from Black, Indigenous, and immigrant perspectives curriculum instead. We’ll see if we still have civics next year.

I love that one, and Essie Wicked. Fall is depressing, but it is ideal for my geriatric goth vibe.

Maybe I’m the weird one, but I give no thought to the people in the other stalls while I’m peeing, much less speculate on their genitals. And if I encounter anyone at the sinks, I might smile and say “have a good day” or something but again, zero thoughts about their private parts.

We’ve all seen Surprised Pikachu, my kids were taking photos of the dog and sent me Surprised Honey.
A blurry photo of a surprised looking Siberian Husky. Her ears are perked up, her eyes are wide, and her mouth is partly open with her bottom teeth showing. She’s on her back and you can see her purple harness. She’s a big floof and looks like she’s imitating the Surprised Pikachu meme.

That’s a name I have not heard in a long time, I liked it better when I had forgotten that guy exists. So many OG antivax weirdos seem to be finding new relevance and it’s really depressing.

I’m in the suburbs. Not surprised to see VHC (I’ve heard good things about working there and had good clinical experiences there in school), but kind of surprised to see which other NoVA ones are on there when one big one is not.

Weird, but I would not call it impossible.

I think you’re on to something there.

"Who would have predicted this?"

- Black women did.
- Trans people did.
- The *entire* disability community did.
- The anarchists did.
- Post-Evangelicals did.

"Well why didn't I hear them."

You did. But you disregarded us as "extremists" and "alarmists". And you are still calling us that.
