I’m a corporate philosopher & left-handed Libra who enjoys competitive knitting and day-drinking. Polio and rubella enthusiast.
I do make a point of noting that my Mom was once a Republican—during my formative years (& beyond) & in an overwhelmingly Democratic state. I am not unacquainted with Republicans. She voted for Gore only because she thought I would never speak to her ever again otherwise.

My late Dad hated Trump & my ex-Republican Mom hates Trump more so: I fucking hate Trump—I am happily my parents’ son.
My Mom was a registered Republican during my formative years & beyond; my Dad voted for Reagan, but drifted ever left-ward thereafter. I’ve been a Democrat since I was 18, so I’m glad my parents eventually met & embraced my politics.
My father and I had minor disagreements from time-to-time, but basically he was a wonderful father. My Dad was well- regarded for his even-temper & sense of humor & folks say that I am much like him: the even-tempered thing has only come to me through age.

By the time my Dad died, the only thing he and I ever argued about was the magnitude of the fact that Trump was a huge asshole. We were both in huge agreement that Trump was like the biggest asshole ever.

I am always told now that I am “exactly” like my late Dad. It is meant as a compliment & I take it is as such. I myself must concede that I am indeed very much like him—and he was a wonderful father, so that is fine with me.

I used to say, “bury me with a bottle of Chateau Malescot St. Exupery”; I now say “bury me with a bottle of Domaine de Chevalier”—the wine of wines at my price point.

I’m a reluctant capitalist—I’m most enthusiastic about capitalism when I get my bonus—but if capitalism is the state of play to motivate the species to be better, I can get behind it.
At lunch today at work I found myself saying: perhaps as much economic growth could be created from uplifting vast swaths of humanity from poverty as could be from AI.

Mike Johnson always reminds me of the William H. Macy character in “Fargo” for some reason — nice guy, kind of a loser & way in over his head with a bunch of bad guys.

It's actually quite amazing Donald Trump can still astound us with his depravity.

It’s so fucking bizarre that President Donald J. Trump does not realize that he’s President Donald J. Trump. What’s that syndrome called again? — Oh yeah — profound dementia.
This is both disgusting and expected.

Trump is a bigger asshole than even Col. Jessup. (In Reiner’s truly awesome “A Few Good Men,” the asshole Colonel says he refrained from calling Santiago substandard because he did not wish to trample on the man’s grave). RIP Meathead.
CBS: Trump just disparaged Reiner’s political views.

Trump on Brown University: You would really have to ask the school about that because this was a school problem. They had their own guards, their own police, their own everything but you would have to ask that question to the school and not to the FBI.

I think it’s very likely that I will soon be elevated to a position of substantial responsibility at work: do I think I’m ready?—fuck yeah. Do I have doubts—of course—small ones—like every pilot who ever flies that plane.

Tatiana Schlossberg’s New Yorker piece is brave, moving, sad & a little bit political. Most deaths go without a national audience: Schlossberg will leave this earth as a credit to her family and as one, like her grandfather before her, plucked too young from the stream of it all.
