Just rode the new N. Lake Dr. protected bike lane for the first time. Very nice. Really like the concrete dividers. #Milwaukee #bicycles #SafeStreets 🚲

🙋‍♂️While I'm now a public sector employee with decent benefits, I spent years working for small nonprofits that couldn't offer anything, while depending on my wife's public school teacher benefits for me and our kids.

Final #DoorsOpenMKE stop of the day was the Manfred Olson Planetarium at @uwmilwaukee.bsky.social . This projector turns 60 years old next year, but is still teaching about the wonders of the heavens the same as the day it went into operation. #Milwaukee

#DoorsOpenMKE stop #4 is the radio station that played the biggest role in shaping my musical tastes growing up, @wmse917fm.bsky.social . Extra special that I got to see Barry in the studio broadcasting the Saturday Afternoon Boogie Bang. Support your local, independent media. #Milwaukee
A view through a window into a radio studio where WMSE's Saturday Afternoon Boogie Bang is broadcasting. A red light above the window signals they are live on air. The studio is filled with microphones and equipment. A large radio "boombox" sits in the middle of walls full of vinyl records at the WMSE studios in downtown Milwaukee.

#DoorOpenMKE stop #3 is the Huron Building in downtown #Milwaukee. Got to wander through a vacant and available floor with great views of downtown, Lake Michigan, and the Third Ward. Getting to wander through random liminal spaces like this is part of the fun of Doors Open.
A gray and vacant floor of the Huron Building in downtown Milwaukee with a table and two chairs in a large empty space. Windows along the perimeter with views of neighboring buildings.

#DoorsOpenMKE stop #2 is the Grand Avenue Club on the corner of Water & Michigan in downtown #Milwaukee. Great org supporting folks facing mental health issues and a gorgeous historic former bank building with a lot of history.
A view of the Grand Avenue Club in downtown Milwaukee. Door is open to the street with a view of the Mitchell Building across the street framed in the window. Paintings of people on the walls with colorful skateboards lined up beneath.

First #DoorsOpenMKE stop of the day is the @wuwmradio.bsky.social studios in the Chase Building in downtown #Milwaukee. I really enjoyed the timeline on the wall and it was a nice surprise to wander into a studio and find Bob Reitman just sitting there chatting with folks.
A view through glass of a radio recording studio with a sign on the wall that says "WUWM 89.7 Milwaukee's NPR". A few microphones on stands sit on one side of the room with a table against the wall.

Same. Although, [looking at my roster] I'm not holding my breath on that fourth one.

Thank you! I've been enjoying most of them, but now I at least know what spurred the trend.

Can someone give me the back story on the Chotiner memes? It's most of my timeline.

Would you go with some other index fund that is not so tech heavy? If so, which one?

Morning rush-hour near London's Oval station. Trains pass underground every few minutes and there's a continuous flood of bicycles, but still there's one lane of gridlocked traffic. Your city will always have exactly as much gridlock as it makes room for.

Here in Milwaukee all the major hospitals used to be located in dense, walkable center city neighborhoods, but all moved out to one suburban location that is challenging to access without a car. And, the neighborhoods they left decades ago have struggled to recover.

it's really jarring to see how little media attention the assassination of Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark and their dog Gilbert received in comparison to the notable death of a non-elected leader of a right-wing organization.
