Crafting stories using words is just unbelievably powerful.

So yeah, sure, you put a prompt into chatGPT and it vomited an empty story with empty characters for you, and then you post it on AO3 and maybe gain a couple of kudos. But like, what's the fucking point??

I want to feel the author's weight behind the words. Why did they chose this sentence and not another, what were they trying to hide underneath, what is the message, the theme, how do their experience and their mistakes and their emotions shape their stories.

You're not meant to simply read a story, you're meant to absorb choices, experiences, feelings, emotions.

AI has nothing of that. All it can do is take the prose of very talented individuals and regurgitate some slop that barely resembles it. It has no soul.

What if find the most repulsive about AI generated content (besides the obvious ecological and socio-economical implications) is that it has no meaning.

The act of writing, and by extent of reading, cannot be reduced to the simple act of consummating content.
