The way they will keep demonizing people who look like me is astonishing. I expect them to claim that scores can improve if you reduce the percentage of "non-white" students or if the school implements "assimilation" programs.

Great thread! My only addition: A few presidents represent themselves, not the institutions. The move away from shared governance led to this, and founders couldn't imagine such limited faculty influence in current leadership.

To get funding, FSU faculty have to attest that the conference they want to attend doesn’t “advantage” a particular racial or ethnic group and that their presentation doesn’t suggest that one group has “inherently or structurally oppressed other groups.”

I signed up to be a discussant for a conference. I am unsure, I realized I would be reading papers for class and conference papers the same week. 😐

This is true; however, it appears those who should/can make reform happen are off doing their own thing. Those of us in the TT pipeline, postdocs, & PHD students will have little to no voice in this change. Department chairs, Associate Professors, & Full Professors need to unite like the Avengers.

8/ I know I sound like no alternative administrator or politician, but complacency is probably not an option. The faculty need to have a strong hand in reforming our own systems so that they can be good for academics, good for higher education, and good for society.

I missed this yesterday: the AAU has come out against the compact. I am pleasantly surprised. I think it makes it pretty hard for any university to accept the deal now, with a possible exception of Texas. www.aau.edu/newsroom/pre...

We have significant concerns, however, about any compact or policy that could damage or depart from our nations competitive merit base system for research grant funding. That system has been the foundation for science and and innovation for decades. Since World War II that special partnership among the federal government, industry, and research universities has fueled tremendous growth in our economy and educated the next generation of highly skilled American workforce contributed to the health of our people and made our nation more safe and secure.

Some schools will be starved of resources. Other schools will be offered bribes. The end goal is the same. To make the universities an extension of the Trump administration. Shame on any of these institutions willing to take the bribes.
