Somewhere in the U.S., there’s a scientist staring at their NSF/NIH grant application wondering why they bother. This post is for you. Science and society both need you. Hang in there and know there is a whole community supporting you.

Fantastic, super clear explanation by Dr. Choo of NIH grants process: takes “tens of thousands of reviewers annually on more than 1000 meetings with study sections like the one I should have been sitting in Thursday.” Even if/when the freeze ends, can’t just be restarted with a snap.

Health Disparities are real & lethal. Research on ⬇️ health disparities & improving health among impacted pops is critical. The NIMHD (NIH Institute that focuses on ⬇️ disparities) website remains. But if you search NIH Health Disparities, the page is gone. Chilling.

Good questions - it is interesting that we see the same patterns in UK study and in this US one. There is something going on (neither study designed to address causality). I think some detailed qualitative work would be a good next step.

And I found this old tweet from @philipcrobinson from the first @ACRheum I attended in 2016, and it reminds me of why we do what we do, and what this program is about
