Stoked to share our Australian community’s voice on “impacts of #Antarctic #SeaIce extremes“ published in PNASNexus!

Massive kudos to Ed for spearheading this epic, super multidisciplinary work👏🥳 And so honoured to be a part of it.

Obviously I have skin in this game- being an Australian govt-funded Antarctic scientist and all - but this rolling short-term funding model threatens a world leading concentration of experts at a time when Antarctica is changing faster than govt policy…
Antarctic research jeopardised by 'terminating' funding, scientists say
Australia's ability to conduct strategic, in-depth, and long-term research in Antarctica is being compromised by "terminating" funding models for key programs, scientists warn.

🌊 Low sea-ice cover means the Denman Marine Voyage #DMV can get to places no humans have been before.

Claire Yung (@scienceanu.bsky.social & @antarcticsciaus.bsky.social) says it allows us to obtain critical data, but is also a reminder of serious and unprecedented changes to Earth’s climate.
Anomalies in sea-ice concentration for March 2025 in the Denman Glacier-Shackleton Ice Shelf region. Anomalies are calculated as the difference between the sea-ice concentration and the 1981-2010 mean sea-ice concentration for that month. (data: NSIDC, source: nilas.org, map: AAPP)
