Jay Jones' texts from 3 years ago, which were recently released and in which he muses about killing Todd Gilbert (then-state house speaker) and speculated about the death of his wife and kids too, are repugnant.

Political violence is not new, and he should have known better even then.

The cloudy skies above Portland, OR, flooded with light from the sunset on the evening before the Autumnal Equinox. Trees in the bottom of the frame give way to skyscrapers in Downtown Portland. Several notable sights can be seen, including Providence Park, The Steele Bridge, Burnside, Big Pink, the Ritz-Carlton, and more buildings. I-5 is seen behind the skyscrapers. Southeast and Northeast Portland are behind the buildings. The Rose Quarter is seen along with industrial buildings in SE Portland. The trees begin where the residential neighborhoods in Northeast and Southeast Portland. Far in the distance, I-84, Mount Tabor, and the city of Gresham. The foothills leading to Mount Hood are obscured by atmospheric perspective and rain.

Tonight the University of Washington community is mourning the loss of professor Quintard Taylor.

His 1994 book “The Forging of a Black Community” is foundational reading about race, class, and urban planning in Seattle political history.

He will be missed sorely.

I am able to stay out of a lot of Ducks-Beavers rivalry issues because I went to UW. I'm not particularly intense about it from a sports perspective, except once a year (Apple Cup).

Great game, better fourth quarter, and the cup comes home to UW!
