Then I'd have to explain that base pay + allowances is BEFORE TAXES, so even when you double your paycheck, it's gonna be a little less than you thought. Not much less, though. You're an E-2. You barely pay any taxes.

when I was in the Marine Corps (the notoriously dumbest branch of service), I met so many new Marines who were confused that their pay was half of what they expected, and I had to tell them, "The number they gave you is monthly pay, but you get paid TWICE a month, so each paycheck is half that"
