I'm on my way to #LPS25 in Vienna and excited for a full week of EO science 🚀
You're not sure which sessions to start with? Join my talk in the Global Carbon Budgets session.

I'll talk about how much biomass was lost due to tree cover loss across Europe's forests from 1985-2024.
See you in Vienna!

New paper alert 🎁

📣In our new paper we analyzed the impact of #Landsat and #Sentinel-2 🛰️ #satellite data density and SMA endmembers on trends in #grasslands ground cover:
- for monthly composites data density is irrelevant
- correct endmember definitions are critical‼️

Happy to share our new paper on soil-specific unmixing of croplands in Germany led by Felix Lobert.

We adapted @katjakowalski.bsky.social’s approach using #Landsat and #Sentinel-2 🛰️ to account for soil variability using a soil reflectance composite developed at @thuenen.de EO:

American beech showing marcescence - retention of senesced leaves through the winter

We see marcescence in many species and plant families, but evolutionary causes are not well understood. Hypotheses include protection from browsing mammals and soil fertilization when leaves drop in the spring
