I don’t know if the historians will be perplexed. Evangelicals are like every other religious fundamentalist group, they are easy to control with fear of the infidels.
Sadly, I doubt these Republicans have truly learned the lesson that their party is an organized crime syndicate run by a mob boss. Like most christo-fascists they will quickly get back in line.
