Nearly every day, I feel like the US is in dumpster fire mode, but then I see people fighting the madness and showing up and speaking up in various ways, and it keeps my hope alive. #2025

Glad to see elected officials and everyday citizens working in big and small ways to fight authoritarianism.

A little love for your timeline. 🩷
A 7-year-old lioness reunites with the man who raised her after she was abandoned as a cub 🦁❤️ He slept beside her outside so she'd grow up as naturally as possible. Now she tackles him with love-hugs, face rubs, pure joy-until they collapse in a pile of trust. 🫶 #WildBond #HeartmeltingNature

😈 How to Take Down an Autocracy 😈

TAKE NOTE:
1. Mockery and Humor
2. Calling out corruption
3. Telling individual stories

Fortunately, we’ve got the brain power and material to do all of this en masse. LFG!

Good morning. Some days you have to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and get on with things. You can, you will, you must. You have power. ⚡️

With Trump carrying out a coordinated assault on our shared history, it’s imperative that we support our local museums.

TY to the Museum of African American History & our leaders for their partnership in telling this hostile, anti-Black White House: hands off our museums & hands off our history.

Good news: Columbia grad student & Palestinian refugee Mohsen Mahdawi, arrested during an interview paving the way to citizenship, has been freed. Another loss for Rubio & Trump.

“Several years ago, I visited the museum with my grandparents—my grandfather, who was born in 1930 Jim Crow Mississippi, and my grandmother, who was born in 1939 Jim Crow Florida.. When I asked my grandmother about it later, she kept repeating the words I lived it. I lived it. I lived it.” -C Smith
In an executive order, Trump targeted the Smithsonian and the National Museum of African American History & Culture suggesting that it is “divisive” and pedaling “improper ideology.”

So, I took a trip back to the museum, and what I saw was a place trying to tell the unvarnished truth about America.

A few weeks ago, I finished #Hula by #JasminIolaniHakes. Beautiful multigenerational story that weaves in some historical elements about Hawaii - which was its own kingdom until colonization stripped land, language cultural practices from native peoples. Important read. #booksky

No, Mr. President, you cannot illegally arrest and detain legal US residents because of their political views or opinions.

In America, we have a little something called the First Amendment.

Throwing protesters in jail is yet another step on the path to authoritarianism.

Bing watching ALL the seasons of A Different World (classic 80’s-90’s sitcom). Just finished the episode where Jesse Jackson guest starred. He gave examples of how big movements of resistance start from a small act. (Rosa Parks as example). It gave me hope that our big & small acts matter. #resist

Vaccines prevent measles.

Americans need to hear our top health officials say clearly: every child in America should get vaccinated against this terrible disease.
