Here's a pinned post for my current WIP, The Haunted King! It's a YA horror/fantasy full of ghosts, monsters, gods, and curses.

Featuring a nonbinary mc, a slowburn rivals to lovers romance, and a setting inspired by Renaissance Italy!

Had a lot of scenes to choose from but I like this one! The official break into act 2, where the real shenanigans begin 🥰 #wipsnips #writesky

That said, books are still gonna get banned after banned books week, so if you didn’t get around to contacting your legislators last week you can still do it this week, and next, etc. Apparently our reps won’t do their jobs unless we push them, so let’s keep pushing them to protect our rights.

Gonna try to redesign some monsters in my book today. I really wanna push the horror, I want to give silent hill levels of wtf is that 🤔

Was totally crashing out about having to rewrite this one scene, but I managed to make it better AND gayer, so we're winning actually #writersky
It was good in theory, but August was a brutal teacher. As Bel struggled to lift the great sword off the ground, August flashed forward with his rapier, pulling his strikes only enough to not actually stab Bel in the side, the chest, the throat. Bel grimaced as August lifted his chin with the tip of his rapier, just close enough to not actually touch his skin. "Come on, Bel. You're gonna have to do better than that."

Finally I can share this here in all its glory. Besides conveying the vibe of my book perfectly, I also resonate with this design personally more than I knew I could reasonably expect. I’m obsessed. I’m in love with it. I hope you love it, too.

Illustration by Tracy J. Lee, design by Emma Hardy.
A nonbinary character in shadow embraces a swirl of colors with a human-like shape, surrounded by ghosts with various facial expressions from scary to whimsical. Text reads: I WAS A TEENAGE DEATH GOD, M.J. Beasi.

I will gladly draw all of the frogs as a symbol for the movement, explicitly to take them back from the fuckers who co opted Pepe for their nazi shit.

Now that pitch events are back, authors, it’s time to talk about the best way to prepare your pitch to sell your book.

When in doubt, the Pixar method never fails.

Side note: I would love to see this pitch as a manuscript in my queries, just saying.
A pitch is a simple premise that grabs the reader in 1-2 sentences by showing the character, the situations, and the stakes When in doubt, use the Pixar Pitch Method: once upon a time; but, one day; and because of that; because of that Example: In a war torn world, a young seamstress survives in a divided magical empire; every day, she stitches dresses for the elite while secretly sewing coded messages for the resistance—until one day, her latest design was intercepted, putting her life, her cause, and the fate of the rebellion at risk.

One of my favorite parts of author visits is the Richland Library "Off Book" recording. Here's the most recent one with @silviamg.bsky.social. We still want to know what @sgj.bsky.social thinks about his cameo in The Bewitching! youtu.be/EtL31zGFZhw?...

The only correct take on a fundamentally anti-human technology.
Screenshot of David Simon interview
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I hate AI with a fiery passion and I resent all these companies attempting to push it down our throats. But you have to admire on some level their ability to create products that literally no one wants. It’s an incredible commitment to failure.

DVpit #querying Tip: As you scroll the feed make note of which agents like pitches in similar categories/genres as yours & add them to your general querying list! The feed is so busy, they might've missed yours, but if they're liking similar stories that means it's something they want in their inbox

When I left for work in the morning, there was a solitary ant on my counter. When I returned, there were dozens.

I will tell you their tale with Lord of the Rings gifs.

1. After spotting some breadcrumbs on my counter, that first ant burst through the nest doors, seeking audience with the queen.

Here is the whole gang in scale with one another! Chloe makes Josaphine look so tiny!!

I worked really hard on these and I hope it shows ❤️
Colored 2d drawings of five anthropomorphic animal characters. A king eagle, a cat in a red skirt with a pumpkin helmet, a regal falcon woman in a blue dress, a small rock dove woman in multicolored scale mail, and a tall moose woman in a dark cloak and green traveling clothes.
