Picked up my copy that I pre-ordered and was surprised to get this “rare” unsigned copy. I think it’s the only unsigned @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social book I own. Made me chuckle! Excited to read!

A5: we have a department that is working together to help learners do well with the curriculum we have designed for them, but with them in mind. This is the first year in many that it feels like a cohesive team working together. #aplitchat
Q5. This article provided negative generalizations that overlooked the work that great teachers are doing each day. Change the narrative and provide something specific that gives you hope.

A4: having watched my own kids grow up through the system I see how teacher expectations varied from person to person, year to year and that is really difficult for some students. I think moving to more classroom based work and projects could help all students be more successful #aplitchat
Q4. Offer a counterargument to this statement:

"So it (direct instruction) has been replaced by corn-syrup instruction: more projects, less homework, less memorization. "

A3: There is always a place for direct instruction, but it has a place beside many other options for instruction. The amount of direct instruction in my room is minimal because that isn’t how I have found to be most effective for me and my learners #aplitchat
Q3. "Direct instruction — by far the most effective form of teaching, from Aristotle to the present — is neither trendy for wannabe “reformers” nor easy for classroom teachers."

Is there any truth to this?

A2: where are the solutions to these problems brought to light? If we don’t present solutions when we share there are problems it just seems whiny. #aplitchat
Q2. What is your biggest criticism with this article?
#aplitchat
December 2, 2024 at 1:27 AM
A1: who do we think is truly reading this? When the audience already agrees with/knows the info it doesn’t really help. The publication has a broad reach, but who is reading critically? #aplitchat
Q1. Does an article like this do any good?

WU not over break, but finally am getting close to finishing Martyr. I’ve just been reading during SSR at school so it’s slow going #aplitchat
Warm Up (WU): Did you read anything noteworthy over Thanksgiving?

Hi I’m Kelley from Indiana. I teach all levels of Juniors including APLit. My college kids are still home so they may get my attention tonight, but I have missed #APLitchat so much!
Good evening, everyone. Welcome to tonight's #aplitchat. Please take a moment to introduce yourself.

Heading home from NCTE full of inspiration and ideas (and a good dose of exhaustion). Rounded out the experience with a keynote from Bryan Stevenson that was everything you would expect from him and then multiply it by 10! Until the next time #ncte24 #EduSky

Day 2 of #NCTE was packed with learning and friends and all the good ideas wrapped up in one package! Kate McKinnon’s endearingly funny keynote was one of my favorites. “In moments when I’ve found the courage to be authentic I’ve been met with love” #EduSky

Amazing to hear from Ketanji Brown Jackson last night and to know that we are “the vanguards of the next generation”! For the little girl Kelley who dreamt of one day being a Supreme Court Justice and then realized law wasn’t quite for me this was a beautiful keynote! #NCTE #EduSky

Excited to head to #NCTE tomorrow and see some of my favorite people in person!
