I think I'm running out of toys for #VintageToyTuesday. So, my last box in the garage had my 2 models from 1979 Buck Rogers that I built and painted as a kid. The Starfighter and the Marauder.

Every now and then, I go over to Goodreads to see if there are any new reviews or ratings for my 2016 debut, Kojiki. I am at a loss - a happy one - to see the most recent ones are REALLY positive. Wonder why new readers like it SO much more than when it came out. Cool @angryrobotbooks.bsky.social

Struggling through the revision process is completely normal. But you need to start with a PLAN.

Start with the free resources on my website. After that, grab my Reverse Outline workshop (on sale for $27.) It’ll help you get a bird’s-eye view of your story. Website link in bio.

I was thrilled to be part of this and now, thanks to Dan, I'm a partial World Fantasy Award winner. Sort of.
Still blown away by the fact that Heartwood won a World Fantasy Award last night. Such a fantastic weekend at the World Fantasy Convention, topped off in spectacular style. Wonderful to meet @joe-hill.bsky.social and @ericlarocca.bsky.social too. Now, back to work!

I truly do not have an answer to this eternal creative cycle of Elation and Despair, the highs to the lows, a sense of accomplishment to a fixed vision of dread.
What do I fear most? That the new book is boring? Maybe. That nothing that I do matters? Maybe. That I'm tired while the world is burning?

Despair is not a productive artistic emotion, actually (imo). It may be for some but in general it reflects something deeper. Perhaps fear that even if the last book was good, this one won't be. Burnout. Anger. Illness. Envy. Frustration. Catastrophic thinking (the end is nigh). And so on.

Been watching Castle. It's the very definition of a comfort watch. I love it.
What are we comfort watching tonight, friends?

I'm watching Bones, and I have arrived at the HORSE KINK EPISODE

Damn. The Fire Force anime is really good. Don’t know how I missed it before now. Nice that each season is 26 eps too. I’m only on ep. 7 of s1 but I’m looking forward to the next one.

How am I supposed to get in the right frame of mind to write horror with this kind of distraction?
October 27, 2025 at 10:28 PM
You'd think having extra time on my hands would mean I'd get some writing done, but I have even more distractions than usual. OTOH, I FINALLY finished a particularly difficult chapter in my WIP. Took me all month to do it. Sheesh
