Venturing outside, wandering a while amidst creation,
has a gentle way, of giving us clarity and peace...

My soul believes this is just one way,
that the heart of God, lovingly provides,
in a world becoming increasingly heartless.

A desert streambed, after a lovely, rare snowfall… The trees still have their green leaves – some trees in the desert have a unique trait, they don’t drop their leaves until early spring. There is a wild Agave plant, in center-left of image, above the rocks… Taken several years ago.

Photo is completely un-edited… Amidst silhouettes of Mesquite Trees along lower part of image, is the setting sun with a bright orange glow. The sun gracefully sends sunrays around the cloudy sky. A Mourning Dove, after a snowy desert night,

Not stressing, but actually resting amidst it all.

The air was fresh & clear that morning, with everything looking enlivened under the vibrant blue sky… Near the snow-covered top of a desert tree, a Mourning Dove sat for quite a while on the only clear branch, feathers fluffed out a little, relaxing & looking around. Maybe this was the bird’s first-ever snow experience? Could birds have a sense of wonder? Photo taken several years ago.

One persevering Flame Honeysuckle floret,
yesterday in a desert garden,
after several freezing nights.

Two center flowers, display vibrant flame-like colors.

Natural surprises, a wonder and refreshment for the heart...

The two center flowers, are deeply golden with vivid orange-red borders, giving the blooms a distinctive flame-like appearance. Near them are deep red buds. So unusual to see in December, after freezing temps at night, though somewhat mild days… Unusual also: the plant did quite poorly this entire summer, yet now is lovely. Colors are the richest I’ve seen on this particular plant. Taken in semi-shade, on a sunny yesterday.

A lively little bird, the male has vibrant rose-pink iridescence, here mostly on the feathers that are just a little fluffed out, on throat, face, head. (On far side of the head, feathers are flat & a dull green color.) With every slight movement he often made, the color patterns would change and shift at will! From several years ago.

A very small bird, his body a mix of green & white feathers, the wings softly illuminated by cloudy-sunlight, with a wonderful mantle of magenta-pink feathers on the head, face, neck… In even a slight variance of ambient light, the mantle feathers could become bright pink, or even go quite dark – all can occur within seconds. Amazing aspect of creation! Taken a few years ago, on a fairly cloudy day.
