Election cake, Nosferatu & Radiohead, Havdalah & Hayrides, Hope Out Loud . . . just a few of the items on the event and civic action calendar for what’s happening (mostly) in Hartford and (sometimes) elsewhere in Connecticut or virtually, for November 2025.

In January, I wrote "As ugly as this pit is, the last thing we need is for it to be converted into a parking lot."

You get three guesses as to what the greatest minds of this generation are going to do with property at an entryway to Hartford.

Ah yes, chipping sparrow season in Colorado: the time of the year where we get bombarded by cartoon laser sounds when I walk the cat in the morning.

This is not a serious bird.

The fascist right doesn’t believe that American Jews belong in America. They want us to live in our own ethno-state—not here.

People like Zohran believe America is a multiracial democracy in which everyone should belong.

It’s insane the latter is treated as antisemitism.

Why are people still asking if it's possible to be car-free in Connecticut? Plenty of us are. The proof is in that.

Good question for the reporters. Every month now I'm finding one or two fatalities in a database that received no coverage.

My guess: it didn't involve a child, the operator (if there was one) stayed on scene, it happened in a residential driveway, no stolen vehicles were involved

Drivers have killed 59 pedestrians/cyclists, so far, this year in Connecticut.

This number has increased because of a fatal collision in Wallingford that was never reported by the news. He was the 3rd pedestrian killed on 29 September 2025

This is the second pedestrian to be killed on Route 190 in Enfield this year. Yesterday’s fatal and preventable pedestrian crash happened 0.1 mile from where a motorcycle rider was killed in a March 2024 collision.

The driver of a Toyota Camry struck and killed an unidentified female pedestrian around 9 PM on Route 190 at or near Glen Arden Lane.

Speed limit: 35 MPH
Sidewalks: mostly missing
Marked crosswalks: nope

Seven of those 57 deaths happened in November. Three since Wednesday.

If people need to use both sides of a road -- and why would there be two sides if that wasn't the case -- then they have to be able to safely move on and to both sides. Why is this so hard to understand when it comes to pedestrian infrastructure?
November 21, 2025 at 11:13 AM
I know the state will want to be applauded because there is some sidewalk where there was none a few years ago, but this all comes off as checking a box to show progress.
November 21, 2025 at 11:13 AM
This happened where:

Speed limit: 40 MPH
Sidewalks: randomly alternating sides
Crosswalks: No marked crosswalks anywhere in vicinity. How do you go from one orphaned sidewalk to another?!
