Brendan Darby said he saw 2 shooters in dark clothes hit Walia in the parking lot on Oct. 22, 2022 and then saw Walia try to run away. "It looked like somebody trying to get out of the starting blocks, right? Like he was leaning over. He was trying to go fast, but he was stumbling and falling."

Meanwhile Van Gool is also charged with father-son duo Scott Telford and Bryce Telford with conspiracy to murder a Kamloops man last year. That matter was also put over for 7 days. Police uncovered the plot during the escape probe.

Quick appearance today in BC Supreme Court for 1 accused in Wolfpack killer Robby Alkhalil's 2022 escape from a BC jail. Ryan Van Gool will make a 2nd appearance Sept. 17. The other 2 Ottawa men charged didn't appear - Edward Ayoub is in jail in Ont and John Potvin is on the run

Alkhalil escaped from North Fraser pretrial jail in July 2022, with the help of others. He was convicted of the first-degree murder of rival Sandip Duhre in August 2022 in absentia. He was already serving life for the 2012 murder in Toronto of Johnny Raposo.

Mann, chief of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit, said gang-related homicides dropped in 2024 to just 16 from 46 the year before but youth recruitment remains a serious issue. There were just six in 2025 to the end of June.

UPDATE: Surrey gangster Opinder Sian's US trial now expected to be next March, not Sept. 2 as first scheduled. Amazingly he was only arrested in June and will still get to trial in months (as opposed to years as is usual in Canada) vancouversun.com/news/surrey-...
