I think the hardest decision we made was to replace the swamp in
Lost Izalith. That was particularly close to Mr Miyazaki's heart.

He said "make it a lava level," and he was pacing back and forth,
"make it a lava level and burn their fucking eyes out."

The world design is something that the team is particularly
proud of. Though, we did have to reduce the number of swamps.

A designer would complete a mock-up for a castle level, and
Mr Miyazaki would look at it and say "Can this be a swamp?"

One day, we came in and found that Mr Miyazaki had flooded his
office and was hopping around on the carpet barefoot, squealing with joy.

"Splish splash!" he screamed, over and over.
"Splish splash!"
