Okay, hear me out. Can you have a contest or something for people to submit gadgets/ideas to add into this project? I would love to see what a missing mash of people's tech looks like! I imagine with a strict canvas size and colour palette obvi haha - no pressure!

If I had the time I think I would make a sidescrolling bicycle racing game. Or team manager sim or something.

If you haven't already, check out @adamcyonis on YouTube. He has a lot of great tutorials and is currently making a beautiful platforms that I thought of when I saw your first image. Not to say you need to try and do what he is, but it is a good place to learn :)

My first thought is about the level of detail. The platform gives you opportunities to add skip details, use darker colours, and use parallax. In the top down you really need to create every pixel detail. That said, I would personally go with what feels both fun & doable!
