Hi folks, I'm Bun / Klaus a hobbyist UK game dev. I used to write TTRPG stuff and worked in Unity / C#, but now I'm picking up Godot.

Working solo I do a little bit of everything in games, but the real struggle is finishing something and staying focused.

Happy new year!🐇
Okay we're more or less back to where I was before the data loss, and then some! I added some new particle types (carbon, ice, and silica), and everything is fusing together properly, and increasing resource counters as they fall into the sun.

Still plenty left to do. #Godot

Got the basics back up and running, simple n-body simulation. Will need to tweak the value to try and recreate that clustering behaviour and need to modify the sun gravity well.

Phew, okay. Let's see if I can remember how I had this set up.
Back into the fray.

You ever start forming a sentence, get distracted, and realise you're left only holding the first word of it? Like a hawk just snatched the rest of it out of your brain.

Modern technology feels cinematically weak. In the past 'modern' tech could be cobbled together from stuff around the house and really work. It felt like witchcraft, alchemical and eldritch. Now all tech feels like a bespoke white shell with a touch screen.

Is there a show like Hells Kitchen where it's about the wait staff / front of house? Or I guess what's your favourite food show in a similar vein?

What if you could apply a coloured tinge to your text on social media and we all just decided on which colours indicate which tone?

Reflecting on playing NES games with save states. I think it makes for a valuable teaching tool. The ability to pick up right where you make a mistake and focus, retry that moment until you figure it out. By the time you finish a stage with states you've proven you can do it without them.

It's been demoralising to lose the 2 projects I worked on, especially since Phantom Power was the biggest thing I've really made so far. But I recognise I need to continue pushing ahead and start making more. Gut tells me to just go with whatever I have the motivation for to get back in the swing.

Deep into the job search at this point and starting to understand where I've developed holes in my skills over the past 10 years of not being properly utilised.

I mainly do QA and hobby dev, but I'm long overdue learning to create automated testing and learning tools like Postman/ playwright

I think I've mentioned before but I really dislike when games don't give you the fantasy it sells itself on. Pokémon is meant to be an adventure with your personal poké, but we always have to pick from the new starters. I'll never get to start with my ghastly and live the fantasy.

I feel like at this point we could create some kind of transfer graffiti. Just unwrap it along a wall like clingfilm and the sunlight dissolve the transfer away leaving the paint behind.

Reminder that there exists an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet filmed with untrained stray cats in Rome, dubbed over by British Shakespearean actors.

It's called 'Romeo.Juliet' and has never been given a VHS/ DVD or Bluray release. BUT THERE IS A COPY ON THE INTERNET ARCHIVE.

As I'm looking at so many games and examining them, I'm much more cognisant of the geometry, the simplicity of having objects moving in space. How the level could be white boxes and primitives. It's clicking how I could assemble rapid prototypes of these games, and in turn many of my own ideas.

My fixation shift has me playing old games, filling in blanks in my review collection. An exercise in cultivating my own taste in games and a useful catalogue to reference as a designer.

Here's a glimpse at my behind the scenes. Though this is all a work in progress obvs.
