The Eugene City Council voted Wednesday to ask their city manager to immediately turn off their automatic license plate readers, also known as Flock cameras.

Eugene has 57 AI license plate reader cameras, owned by Georgia-based company Flock Safety.

Settlements have been reached in U.S. District Court in Oregon in two class action lawsuits against the J.H. Baxter company. Filed in 2021, both suits alleged wrongful disposal of hazardous waste by J.H. Baxter, affecting people’s properties, wellbeing and health.

The University of Oregon has reopened the two oldest buildings on its Eugene campus, following structural upgrades, including new HVAC systems, disability accommodations, and steel and concrete supports.

University Hall opened in 1876, and Villard Hall opened in 1886.
