1/ 🌱 When plants face stress, they often suppress growth to save resources.
In our new Science Advances paper, we reveal how: plants repurpose their ER quality control machinery (ERAD) to regulate auxin compartmentalization and thus growth.

ERAD machinery controls the conditional turnover of PIN-LIKES in plants
Plant ERAD machinery governs the turnover of auxin transporters involved in developmental and stress responses.

Only a few days left to apply!

My group is looking for a postdoc to engineer and deploy new tools to precisely manipulate and decode how auxin coordinates plant morphogenesis.

(1/5) We reveal how root architecture and nutrient leakage shape spatial patterns of microbial colonization, moving beyond traditional models of uniform exudation.

Using precise spatial and temporal analysis, researchers in Science provide insight into how bacteria around the root interact both with the plant and with each other.

A confocal microscopy image shows root-colonizing bacteria clustering around an emerging lateral root, where localized glutamine leakage induces spatially confined reporter activity.

Looking for a friend 🙃

Does anyone have a reliable protocol for plasma membrane isolation/enrichment from N. benthamiana leaves, ideally for downstream proteomics. Got one that works?

Please share or repost! 🌱🧬

True — eLife has shown a way forward with preprint peer review and significant statements. As a senior editor, I value this model! Uptake is still in its early stages, and long-term community acceptance will be key.
kleinevehnlab.bsky.social
Absolutely — nothing replaces reading. But I guess we agree that in an interdisciplinary world, no one has the expertise to assess quality across all fields. If individual reading were the only fix, IF will likely remain. Fixing the system is more complicated than that.
kleinevehnlab.bsky.social
The system needs proxies for quality and researchers want visibility for their work. That combination has kept the treadmill running so far. Universal preprints would already ensure access but there’s still no systemic consensus on quality assurance, separating the must-reads from the nice-to-knows.
