I previously had my Mastodon account bridged to this platform, but thought I'd give hanging out here a shot, as opposed to having my posts mirrored.

About me: I like to draw on paper, I live on a sailboat in the Salish Sea, I love seabirds, making comics, and fermenting vegetables.
For those who are sick of the modern web, check out Wiby, a search engine that indexes old-style websites.

The yester-web wasn't overrun with commercial garbage, it was a way for hobbyists, computer-savvy ppl, & academics to talk about stuff they were personally interested in.

Made a page on my website with instructions on how to disable AI features for a variety of services (mainly the ones I encounter at the moment, will append to the list as I go).

The list so far includes Github, Google Services, Firefox and DuckDuckGo.

Microsoft's agentic OS is broken. Shocker.

Why not take the time to make a product that works well and that people can depend on?

Attended an event yesterday marking the 25 yrs of sailing of friends who have sailed nearly everywhere, including through the Northwest Passage. We sang sea shanties which included Drunken Sailor, Farewell to Nova Scotia, Barrett’s Privateers, Jack Was Every Inch a Sailor, and Northwest Passage.

I like to sew in my free time ^^.

I made these arm warmers out of an old sweater yesterday. They're super soft and comfy.

My hands get cold a lot aboard my boat in the winter, so this helps.

My 2013 Macbook Air's power cord is so worn that the cover has split open near the connector. I covered it with heat shrink.
I do have a backup cord, but I like to extend the use of a thing for as long as possible ^^.

So grateful for the NPD's Dental Care Plan(CDCP). Just went to the dentist for the first time with 100% coverage :).
Up until this point I'd been paying visits out of pocket and it was making a big dent in my wallet each time. This makes such a big different to people like me.

I dressed up as Barrel(Nightmare Before Christmas) for Halloween.

Made an origami paper mask, paper bones(stuck on my clothes), and made some 3-toed feet out of an old pair of pants my mom was no longer using.

Recently I had a good week-long run where I had tons of social energy, during which start following people on here, taking part in conversations, sharing work, etc. It is exciting, energizing, and fun, but then eventually I run out of stamina and I've got nothing to give.
