Team Rocket split from Ash's Kalos Journey long ago. Now they find themselves facing their biggest challenge yet— Getting a life.

Or, Team Rocket learns what civilian life is truly like.

Using these 2 examples from Hoenn's Route 117. The lesser Mons you have, the higher the level. If you have more, ofc they'll be a little bit behind due to double focus, but that offers variety. That's the value of patience. Modern EXP share fails bc Trainers didn't change, or worst, got weaker/null.

One of the core reasons modern EXP Share doesn't work is because the challenge of the game doesn't scale with the grind it's set. Trainers barely have more then 3 Mons so the world isn't ready for you (in SV this is evident since Trainers are skippable). There's also no incentive in perma-switching.

I also don't think we should be equating/scaling HZ legendaries to Ashnime ones in terms of power when these iterations follow a philosophy more similar to the games/manga. Even the Gen 9 legendaries are like that. The Dons are bikes, Pagogo is "Togepi with a plot", Pecharunt is a gag, etc. etc.
February 7, 2026 at 2:55 AM
There's a case to be made given how HZ is a soft-sequel to SV that it's "static encounter Pokémon" i.e "the heroes" would basically be their equivalents (the legendaries at level 70+ you find in a postgame cave). More evidence due to Kleavor being a replacement for Bloodmoon Ursaluna that echoes it.

And that's not on Zygarde only, but on the other Heroes as well. We have no idea if Lucius ever trained these guys. And for a bunch called "Heroes" they truly lacked that heroism they needed. They seem to have to accolades or records from people of that time to even "earn" that title, sadly to say.
February 7, 2026 at 2:36 AM
I'd argue the Trainer has to play a role here too. Bc yes, Zygarde is strong, it took a Tera Raid to beat them, but are they WELL TRAINED? Or were they trained at all? That's context we're lacking? We never knew if Gibeon ever trained Zygarde or to which extent Amethio did in same, in w/e form.
February 7, 2026 at 2:36 AM
IIRC that's dub only, but alas. Back to my point, I guess it's just easier for me to pinpoint HZ passage of time bc "few episodes = easier time to count days". For example, from EP01 to EP45 a total of 30 days pass. That's 1 month, a lot happened in that 1 month. Counting Liko's school stay, 5 max.
February 7, 2026 at 2:31 AM
I think it's moreso my skepticism seeing 1-year of time passing in what's essentially 70+ episodes. Yes, it was even weird during the actual Indigo League run of Kanto bc episodes weren't directly connected to one-another like Horizons are. I'd diggest it more if the kids didn't only had 2 Mons each

Shot in the dark here, but Anon is most likely scaling Dragonite to Laquium-powered AP-omniboosted Gouging Fire... which, yeah, it needed Mega Evo to defeat it, but one example a case doesn't make. Lance's Dragonite was on equal terms with a city-level Gyarados. GF barely damaged the docks in HZ111.

I always took that as Diana stating such FOR THE AUDIENCE, and not an actual time indicator (as she states "a while back" in EP24). Such claim of "one year ago" is in reference to when she last referenced Hamber. It's out-of-universe meta-text slipping its way into episode narrative FOR THE AUDIENCE

ROCKS in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon!!

In a grid based battle system where every turn matters the rock can be a long ranged option against an enemy that could otherwise end your run. One time use, different varieties, immediately useful without being too precious to hoard. Great item
