The cuckoo seems to be curious and immature, childish cruelty. Like the way how a child might pull away at an insect's legs until the only thing left is its torso, condemning it to a drawn-out death/rendered unable to defend itself from predators.

The only question I have to ask is - what happened to her imagination? we see what's left of the peur aeternus, and what could be attributed to the senex that formed inside her. But what happened to her childish curiosity? Is it the cuckoo?

with this context in mind, what does the cuckoo/ballerina represent? Everyone else seems alot more clearer (though my perception is still a little shakey). Like the mother, her father and asphyxia - possibly being the projection of her family? the rest being coping mechanisms like you said
