It's #AceWeek so a little teaser for the book I hope to send on sub soon, in which two co-stars in a high budget comic book adaptation fight the straightwashing of a canonically ace character... and their feelings for each other.

I don't do a lot of picture book recs, but Jingle Dancer by Cynthia Leitich Smith (Mvskoke Nation) is such a beautiful story.

Illustrated by Ying-Hwa Hu and Cornelius Van Wright

I'm also a fan of the YA novels I've read by Cynthia.

I have a lot of grief from publishing, but it's not really about the sting of rejection as it is about all the things I haven't done because my focus on publishing.

Not even accomplishments, but all the movies I haven't seen or games I haven't played because writing took too much of my time.

My biggest win isn't word count, it's that I've written every day for the past two weeks and *enjoyed it*

I'm at a point in publishing whre finding joy in writing is very difficult, so it's always a win to actually have fun writing. #FiFRevPit

If there's publishing journey discourse again, then I'm just going to softly throw this back into the universe.

Not the Darling: Haven’t I always been giving up?
Note from Aimee: This next author is a friend of mine I think many of you will know well. Before we were friends, she was a sort of inspiration for me, someone I actually thought was perhaps too bi…

I've thought a lot about what someone should takeaway from publishing journey posts. I think for newbies it's encouraging to see their rejection numbers are normal.

I got to a point where they became discouraging again because all but a handful were way shorter than my journey.
I read those "journey" posts and 99% of the time I learn nothing useable, really. I congratulate and move on.
There's some discourse happening on Threads about authors gatekeeping their publishing journey information. (yeah I know.) Sharing information is helpful, but not required, & not available to everyone. So I've made a questionnaire about the query & publishing journey. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...

Utah is getting a map that has a strong chance to flip a house seat blue!

A district court judge has thrown out the gerrymandered map the legislature proposed and chosen a map that meets the law's anti-gerrymandering standards.

Occaisional reminder that if you're looking to create a writing community event, feel free to reach out for advice.

I've been on the mentorship side of 4 different contests, helped found RevPit and was on their board, ran MockPit and similar events, and have consulted on other events.

Hey #MockPit -- a couple things I'm seeing:

1. we don't need the title in the pitch

2. make sure you learn and include the standard genre and age category abbreviations. this doesn't super matter for mockpit but does for pitch events!

Y'all are killing it with the aesthetics

Teen heartthrob Nolan struggles with off-script conversations.

Former tween star Phoebe can't escape the tabloids.

When they're cast as LIs in a superhero comic adaptation, they'll fight the straight-washing of a canonically ace character.
And their feelings for each other.

I started #MockPit a literal decade ago on Twitter, when there was still a 140 character limit. Publishing has changed a lot since then, and I discontinued the event a few years ago as a lot of pitch contests started to fold.

I couldn't be more excited that #RevPit is bringing it back.

My (17F) ex bff (17M) asked to borrow my magic cosmetics to erase an unwanted memory but I got distracted and used too much magic and now he can't remember a lot of things... including that he hates me. AITA?

Just finished Love is a War Song by Danica Nava (Chickasaw) and loved it as much as her debut.

The heroines of both books are messy and flawed in really real and relatable ways. And the chemistry is off the charts. Both great options for Indigenous Peoples Month reads.
