The Everglades concentration camp is violating human rights & dehumanizing people. Wasteful & abusive. Years of anti-immigrant discourse & DeSantis's opportunism led us here.

Brighten your day. Historian rediscovers a pre-Incan method of water storage, gets money to restore the existing structures, and the town he grew up in now has access to water 10 hours a day, up from 1/2 hour per day. The details are v. cool.

Report from downtown LA: very, very far from a “war zone.” Not even a piece of litter on the ground. It’s beautiful to see the city come together in solidarity.

Migration is a human right. Immigrants are welcome here in Los Angeles, where they are over 1/3 of our population. As if the city could even run without them, but also as if we would WANT to. Cultural exchange & understanding are a gift and I am proud that they shape LA’s culture so deeply.

Hi Skystorians! I am a recent history MA graduate hoping to teach at community college. I’m sure many of you have been in my shoes before, so just thought I’d ask for advice/recommendations you may have on applying to positions and finding one’s footing as a teacher. 🗃️

My copy of Toyon arrived. The artists & authors in this issue reject the destruction & genocida in Gaza. I’m glad I was able to add my voice to theirs. #freepalestine

My poem “Eulogy for a Dead Dream” was published today in Toyon Literary Magazine Volume 71: Dispatches from the Global Intifada. Honored to have my work included in this edition that speaks out against the horrors of the genocide happening in Palestine.

AHA research indicates that US history teachers are focused on teaching children basic, factual information about US history. Unfortunately, basic, factual US history includes enslavement of people of African descent, forced removal of indigenous people, & exclusion of women from the right to vote.🧵
The AHA's American Lesson Plan report shares findings from the most comprehensive study of secondary US history education undertaken in the 21st century. Key takeaways include: history teachers are professionals who are concerned mostly with helping students learn central elements of US history. 🗃️
