And thus, WWX joins the Lan family anyway, but it's completely by choice.

Bonus: When LXC hears of this, he smiles. He liked WWX as a potential cousin but he'll be like another brother now.

For him, the affection for WWX was always completely platonic but he's glad to see his little brother free of all the angst that enveloped him during WWX's stay.

WWX is completely stunned. LWJ holds him close and kisses him thoroughly. When they separate, he asks, pointedly: "Do you understand?"

WWX smiles. Suddenly all his confusing feelings make sense at last. He loves LWJ, just not as a cousin. Not even close.

When he says his goodbyes to LWJ, he's surprised to see his cold facade break.

He tried so hard to get a reaction from LWJ before, but now he gets one by leaving.

LWJ frowns, and asks why WWX doesn't want to stay in his father's sect.

But the one that WWX is truly sad to lose is LWJ, despite the fact that LWJ will surely be glad to see him go.

After learning of this, WWX feels like he can finally be free of the doubts and questions. His parents loved each other and loved him, that's all he needs to know.

But he feels a bit sad about having to give up this idea of a family that he'd grown to treasure during his stay.

Now LQR has to work on cleaning his previously perfect reputation! Gossip may be forbidden but somehow in the past weeks, everybody believed WWX was his son and treated him as such.

So improper!

But deep down, LQR is glad to be able to give WWX some certainty about his parents.

But once the misunderstanding is cleared, LQR wastes no time telling WWX that his mother was also a shameless chaos gremlin so it's no surprise that her son comes wreaking havoc too.

(This somehow makes WWX so happy. His mother was like him!)

So maybe WWX found the letters amongst some old things that belonged to his parents in a hidden corner of Lotus Pier, and jumped to conclusions due to excitement.

He thought his mother wrote all the letters to the same person, this LQR, whoever that was.

So he had to find him!

Sidenote: Look, I don't know how WWX finds those letters or why they're kept there or why the Jiangs didn't tell him the truth.

I just think it would be hilarious if someone arrived at the CR claiming he's LQR's long lost son 🤣 (and even more so if that someone was WWX)

When WCZ wrote to her, he also attached his letters to the strictly friendly ones from LQR.

So LQR was technically an intermediary on their correspondence until they eloped, but he was never involved with her.

When they eloped, they kept both sets of letters together.

CSSR wrote some friendly letters to LQR, yes, but WWX's assumptions arose from a misunderstanding because she also attached letters to someone she only called "my love" and sent everything to the CR.

The letters were for WCZ but their relationship was kinda secret for a while.

Eventually LQR comes back and upon hearing that a young man claims him as a father he almost has a conniption.

He denies the claim even before learning who WWX is.

Then when he learns the boy's name, he explains who WCZ was and tells WWX that his parents loved each other deeply

WWX doesn't understand his feelings for LWJ at the time and thinks he just wants to get close to his family, so he's hurt by the perceived rejection from his supposed cousin, but the truth is that he's fascinated by LWJ in a much deeper way.

They're both pining silently.

Of course there's some LWJ angst because he quickly realizes he's falling for WWX but believes they're related so he acts coldly and he refuses to call him cousin, arguing that his uncle hasn't confirmed the relation yet.

This makes WWX believe LWJ doesn't like him (as family)

Anyway WWX is hosted by LXC and LWJ, and he starts befriending them (meaning, he befriends LXC and infuriates LWJ, but you get the idea) and they tell him about their uncle.

WWX finds it hard to believe his father is such a boring person, but he yearns to learn about his roots.

Obviously everyone at the CR is *shocked* by THE Lan Qiren having a secret lost lovechild but some people remember that CSSR was at the CR long ago so maybe it's true?

But LQR is not at the CR to confirm or deny the allegations, so the Lan invite WWX to stay and wait for him.

WWX is searching for his true father because the Jiangs didn't tell him about his parents. He only discovers his mother's name by accident.

He finds some old love letters that take him to the Cloud Recesses and he arrives dramatically like "Hi, I'm looking for my father, LQR!"

They said he "improved the family's genes" and constantly praise the pale skinned babies in the family.

To this day, my grandma still refuses to speak her native language, even if sometimes she slips and says some words in otomi. They made her believe being indigenous was wrong.

My grandma was 'stolen' from her house at 13 and she tried to run to her aunt's house, but the aunt took her back and berated her for making the family look bad. As punishment, she wasn't married properly, just sent to live with a 30yo man.

Now, many in the family praise his light skin and eyes.
