JZX never wanted to hurt her and always considered her a beautiful, strong, righteous woman. She would have been happy to call JYL wife, if her circumstances had been different, if she had been born a man.

Maybe they can be friends after this?

So the engagement is temporarily broken and after the war ends, JZX eventually reconnects with JYL and understands her character better. She realizes that JYL would never reveal her secret to others.

So she confesses, if only to make JYL understand that it was never about her.

And what of JYL's hopes and dreams? Surely she wants a husband, a real husband and all of what that entails.

JZX may even be in love with her intended, but the fear is stronger. It takes her a long while to admit her feelings and open up enough to risk telling JYL the truth, hoping she will not reject and ruin JZX because of it.

There is so much at stake, not only JZX's heart is in danger.

But JZX is not so sure. She's terrified of disclosing her most closely guarded secret.

Even if JYL seems like a kind, understanding person, who is to say she won't react negatively to the news that her arranged husband is not what 'he' appeared to be?

When it comes to the engagement Madam Jin and YZY agreed upon even before their children were born, Madam Jin decides to keep it up because she has seen JYL grow and knows she is a soft, kind person.

Surely they can come to an agreement of silence when the time comes.

Their tactic is to make JZX pretend to be super snobbish and bitchy, thus not letting anyone close enough to discover the secret. Only JZX's closest friend (Mianmian) and Madam Jin's most trusted servants know the truth of it.
