I really take for granted just how much of my humor was shaped by the years of reading the big books of Calvin & Hobbes with my Dad and brother. Gave me permission to be a lil stinker, wildy imaginative, AND still a dumb kid all at the same time.
I lived through those years, and this checks out. The Far Side, Bloom County, and Calvin & Hobbes were my favorites. I remember thinking it hurt how brilliant Calvin & Hobbes could sometimes be.

It would be easy to see the listing for Predators online and think it another quick and dirty true crime doc churned out by Netflix upon quick glance. The film's mix of archival footage and crisp 4K interviews even walks the same line as that ilk.

Moving to Helsinki was when it really clicked with me how much internalized homophobia there is in the states about men *eating ice cream* because here the most rough looking Paavo looking like he’s headed to a black metal show will be happily lickin on a cone without a care. Dudes rock.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.
