I will argue that peak LiveJournal had more reach than peak Second Life. No one ever thought they needed a corporate/ org presence on Lj, which is one of the things that made it feel authentic back in the day.

To contrast, average attendance for one day of the Warped tour is about 20k to 50k per venue.

I remember so much hype about SL as the Next Big Thing & that libraries, universities & organizations needed to get on board. And today I checked Wikipedia to see the reach at its peak: "The maximum concurrency (number of avatars inworld) recorded was set at 88,200 in the first quarter of 2009"

Fun fact: according to the back cover, this publisher also had titles on making money through blogging and making money via MySpace.

Two counties I have been to that overpromise and underdeliver:

Skamania County, Washington: no two-tone scene evident. Spotted no trombones or pork pie hats when I visited.

Licking County, Ohio: named for the local Licking River. Not a hotbed of ice cream scoop shops or lesbian bars.

In other news, man on the inside S2 filmed at Caltech, which is a dead ringer for the lsu quad, except for a fountain/reflecting pool lsu lacks.

Have you watched Pitch Perfect, shot on the Lsu campus? Lots of locations you'll remember like new music Bldg, parade ground, Greek theatre

The two moral conundrums of this age:
1) how to combat Islamophobes who falsely ally with people actually fighting antisemitism
2) is kink shaming sometimes appropriate

1) no i didn't pay to read this
2) that last boilerplate line of the cut and paste I got this from should be given some sort of irony award.

Double entendre title of the week. This book is from 2005 and appears to be from a UK or HK publisher but I really think someone should have told them.

You know who else is controversial and a lot of people don't like? Pot. Kettle.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

So a parent could reasonably let an adult date their 15 year old daughter, but it's not reasonable to let her choose books she likes at the library, because they could unduly influence her immature brain?
The hypocrisy burns.
"don't worry, he's just into 15-year-olds" perhaps not as exculpatory as you think
Also 15-year-olds are not "barely legal." They are minors.
Megyn Kelly: "I know somebody very close to this case…Jeffrey Epstein, in this person's view, was not a pedophile…He was into the barely legal type, like he liked 15 year old girls…He wasn't into like 8 year olds…There's a difference between a 15 year old and a 5 year old."
