This is why I'm too busy to post on 🦋 - too much good stuff out there to read.
Since it's Black Speculative Fiction Month, I thought I'd share a story I love by a Black author each day. Since I'm starting 10 days in, I'll post a bunch to catch up. I'm going to do 15 from the Top 80 of Best American Science Fiction and Fantasy and 15 from Lightspeed/Nightmare.

Even more obviously, if you use ChatGPT or other LLM/GAI systems, please stop.

They are bad for our society.

Bad for our environment.

And bad for you, with studies already showing they amplify mental illness and diminish cognitive abilities. publichealthpolicyjournal.com/mit-study-fi...

Just finished Wearing the Lion by @wiswell.bsky.social . It's the best book I've read so far this year (and I've finished over 100). His Heracles takes a hero's journey into grief, forgiveness, healing, and nonviolence that is profoundly different. So now I'm rereading it, in case I missed anything.

Time for me to start posting my book-report-of-the-day, since I've finished 50 books so far this year. The attached article does a much better job than I could, concerning Sarah Wynn-Williams' book Careless People. Read the book. Get off Facebook. I'm attempting to extricate myself now.
1/ After reading Sarah Wynn-Williams' compelling memoir about her years working in the upper echelon of Facebook, I read several reviews.

@cwarzel.bsky.social's the Atlantic is the best, because it hits the nail on the head about why this book is not just fascinating, but important.

Make your calls. Go to your town halls. Ask your state and local officials what they are doing under state and local law. Rest. Hydrate. Make soup for the hungry. Don’t let people tell you that you’re doing it wrong. Not a sprint. Not a marathon. A relay. Find your team. Thank you.

My first newsletter mailing has gone out! This is me, a terminal cancer patient, rambling about how joy (especially public joy) has become a sort of secular sin in the Internet Age and why we should reframe our thoughts about it even in the darkest of times.

I just finished the audio book, "Death of the Author", by Nnedi Okorafor @nnedi.bsky.social . Coincidentally, I'd just read the essay "The Death of the Author" by Roland Barthes (as mentioned recently in Vulture) about the disconnection of art and artist. Okorofor's treatment is deep and satisfying.
